FFXIV Patch 6.48: The PvP rebalancing in depth

This round the healers and tanks get attention. What's new?

FFXIV Patch 6.48‘s main feature was to once again rebalance PvP a little. It’s not as big of a rebalance as last time, but nonetheless a couple core job mechanics got changed up a little. Here’s the FFXIV Patch 6.48 PvP rebalancing, in depth.

FFXIV: New 6.48 rebalance explained

This rebalance mostly focuses on buffs, with only a single job getting any sort of nerf. In addition, the PvP action Guard has been adjusted. The delay to manually disable Guard is now two and a half seconds instead of one second. This is, as the patch notes explain, because it’s easy to panic and spam Guard while trying to save yourself during PvP and disable it by accident. With a two and a half second delay, that will be a less common mistake, which is a win for all.

The Buffs

  • Paladin: Blade of Faith and Blade of Truth, both actions acquired during Limit Break, increased potency. Faith is now 6000 instead of 4000 and Truth is 7000 instead of 6000. Paladin actually gets to try and do decent DPS!
  • Gunbreaker: Draw and Junction can now be used on yourself and party members. This makes it far easier to prepare yourself ahead of time to do your combo, especially if the enemy team isn’t near.
  • Astrologian: Diurnal Benefic‘s cure potency went up from 1000 to 2000, as well as its effect now lasting 15 seconds instead of 12. Nocturnal Benefic‘s barrier potency is up to 5000 from 4000. Two great little additions to make the class a more effective healer.
  • Black Mage: Black Mage and buff is a surprising thing to read in the same sentence, yet here we are. Soul Resonance, the Limit Break status effect, now grants the buff Apocatastasis. What does this buff do? Well you see, it makes Black Mage even more evil than it already was. While using Limit Break, Black Mages now have a fifteen second 10% damage reduction. At the same time, Superflare’s recast time reduces by fifteen seconds. Just to ensure you set everyone on fire and/or deep freeze them multiple times.

The Nerfs

Our sole job on the cutting block for nerfing is White Mage.

  • Miracle of Nature‘s recast time went up from 25 seconds to 30.
  • Afflatus Purgation‘s regen cure potency decreased from 4,000 to 3,000.

Not a huge nerf, but probably a warranted one. White Mage is a menace to the PvP map in the right hands. And that is all for the FFXIV 6.48 PvP rebalance. In conclusion, avoid your local Black Mages.
