You did read that right. This is not a Zelda game, we’re seeing another take on the creature from FFXIV. Here’s a look at the FFXIV Allied Tribe: Moblins.

FFXIV London Fanfest Allied Tribe Moblins reveal

Moblins share common ancestry with Goblins, which have been a known sight to FFXIV for a while now. We never got an Allied Tribe questline around goblins. However, they were involved in storylines like Brayflox’s Longstop or the Alexander raid questline. And now it turns out, they have distant ancestors in Tural.

As explained in the keynote, Moblins live in the jungles of Kozamak’uka. They are known for their ability to procure any useful and rare material you could ever imagine, and openly welcome artisans and craftsmen from other races. That is to say, they’re definitely going to be the crafting Allied Tribe of Dawntrail.

Every expansion has a crafting Allied Tribe questline, which is always a really valuable way to level up your crafters quickly. First, we had the Ixali in A Realm Reborn, then the Moogles in Heavensward, Namazu in Stormblood, Dwarves in Shadowbringers, and finally the Loporrits in Endwalker. Typically the crafting questlines involve the tribe in question having problems making something for you to fix, but since the Moblins are known for procuring materials, they may just be fascinated by crafting already. We’ll have to see.

Moblins share the feature of wearing masks, gloves, and carrying backpacks like Goblins. However, their outfits appear to favor metal over leather, and they are brown underneath instead of green. Likely there are even more differences we’ll find out when we actually get to meet them.
