FF7 Rebirth romance guide: How to choose your Gold Saucer date

Here's how to score a date with that special someone in Rebirth.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth doesn’t have a romance system like other big RPGs, but the Gold Saucer date from the original game has been greatly expanded.

You’ll spend the entire game building your bonds with your party members preparing for that key moment, so you’ll need to be careful when choosing dialogue options.

There’s a whole lot more that goes into party member relationships than dialogue options, and there are a few other things to keep in mind as you play through the main story of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. It’s a pretty forgiving system, though, so you’ll have ample opportunities to raise your relationship levels with your favorite party members before the time comes.

How Romance Works in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

To romance a character in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you need to raise their relationship level higher than the rest of your party members before the Gold Saucer date takes place.

You can check your relationship level with every party member by pressing the L1 button when not in combat. When you press L1, a smiley face icon will appear above everyone’s heads that shows how close you are to them. As your bonds deepen, the circle around the smiley face icon will continually fill up and the icon will change colors when you reach a new relationship level.

To “romance” someone in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the only requirement is to have their relationship level higher than anyone else’s. You don’t need to max out your relationship level with your desired romantic partner to take them on the Skywheel date at the Gold Saucer. Your relationship level will affect the outcome of the date (standard or intimate), however, so you should deepen your bond as much as possible if you want an intimate ending to the date.

All Romance Options in FF7 Rebirth

There are six possible romance options in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

  • Aerith
  • Tifa
  • Red XIII
  • Barret
  • Yuffie
  • Cait Sith, Cid, and Vincent

Aerith, Tifa, Red XIII, Yuffie, and Barret are the only five romanceable party members for the Skywheel date in Chapter 12. If your relationship level isn’t high enough with any of them, then you’ll get a comedic scene where Cait Sith, Cid, and Vincent go on the Ferris Wheel with Cloud.

When is the Gold Saucer Date in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?

The Gold Saucer date happens at the end of Chapter 12 when the party returns to the Gold Saucer for the second time. The game will give you a warning right before the date starts, though, so you’ll be able to return to the open world and deepen your bonds with your party members so you can achieve your desired result at the Gold Saucer.

Your relationships will also affect the party’s first visit to the Gold Saucer in Chapter 8, as either Aerith, Tifa, or Yuffie (or nobody at all if you aren’t close to anyone) will accompany you as you try out all of the Saucer’s minigames for the first time. The Skywheel date itself doesn’t happen until Chapter 12, though, so there’s still time to make changes if you don’t want to romance your companion from Chapter 8.
