Square Enix kicked off the Final Fantasy 14 fan festival event in Las Vegas with a keynote presentation by Naoki Yoshida, the game’s producer and director. During the presentation, Yoshida revealed that due to game enhancements and expanded content, the minimum system requirements for FF14 are changing.
Much of the presentation focused on changes related to the new expansion, Dawntrail. While working toward that expansion’s launch in Summer of 2024, the team has also remained busy making enhancements to Version 6. The team is hard at work on a graphical upgrade that will eventually apply across not only the new expansion, but existing content. These changes require a more powerful PC.
On the PC front, Yoshida shared minimum and recommended system requirements, while indicating the team is still settling on maximum specs. The new minimum system requirements are as follows:
- OS: Windows 10 64 bit, Windows 11 64 bit
- CPU: Intel Core i7-6700 or higher
- Memory: 8GB
- Available HDD/SSD space: 140GB or more on HDD
- Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or higher, AMD Radeon RX 480 or higher
- Screen Resolution: 1280 x 720
To run the game with recommended settings, you’ll want to have a computer that meets the following specifications:
- OS: Windows 10 64 bit, Windows 11 64 bit
- CPU: Intel Core i7-9700 or higher
- Memory: 16GB
- Available HDD/SSD space: 140GB or more on SSD
- Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 or higher, AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT or higher
- Screen Resolution: 1920 x 1080
According to Yoshida, the game will remain playable on PlayStation 4. This decision makes sense, given the strong relationship Square Enix has enjoyed with Sony. However, that version will likely have to make compromises that prevent a stellar experience.
“FF16 is out,” Yoshida said through translator Kate Cwynar, English localization lead for Final Fantasy 14. “So, if you were thinking of getting a PS5, now’s the time!”
From the sound of things, players will be able to continue enjoying the game through the arrival of Dawntrail a year from now. But it might be time to put some serious thought into your PC’s capabilities while you plan future adventures.
