Ubisoft have been casually dropping game reveals throughout a fiscal conference call today, confirming both Far Cry 5 and The Crew 2. The former has been rumoured since last week, when a local Montana paper featured a story about a film crew shooting scenes for a new Far Cry title.
That sparked further (totally unconfirmed) rumours that Far Cry 5 would be Western themed. In part because an old Ubisoft customer opinion survey about the Far Cry series had included an Old West option, and in part because areas of Montana suit that kind of setting I suppose. In the call, Ubisoft’s Yves Guillemot wouldn’t be drawn on the setting.
More details are coming “soon,” suggesting a reveal prior to E3 itself. For now, there’s a rather empty looking forum for the game on Ubisoft’s site.
Along with a fifth (well, fifth numbered – since Primal and Blood Dragon exist) Far Cry title, Ubisoft also confirmed The Crew 2. In much the same fashion, more details were promised “soon”. This sequel doesn’t have its own forum space yet, but did get an announcement thread.
Throughout the presentation, Ubisoft repeatedly visited the words “multiplayer, competitive, co-op, open world” and “live operations”. So you can probably expect both titles to be built around those philosophies. That won’t be much of a departure for The Crew 2, but may somewhat alter Far Cry 5’s structure. Both games will be coming out this year.
