Fantasy author calls City of Heroes closure “unethical”

City of Heroes closed just under a week ago but fans are as passionate as ever to understand why the MMO was closed by NCSoft.

NCSoft has never given a solid reason as to why City of Heroes should cease operation which has frustrated players, one of those fans being US fantasy novelist Mercedes Lackey. In an interview with the Korean Times she commented “I think cancelling a game that is making a profit, along with destroying jobs and an online community, is entirely unethical.”

NCSoft in Korea are doing a good job at not giving straight answers to the CoH community. NCSoft’s Kim Yo-han reiterated that it was a “strategic decision” and that “nothing had been decided on selling the game or other action afterwards.”

Perhaps NCSoft are hoping that the issue will simply go away and fans will move on. With a rabid fanbase who are even prepared to create a whole new game to keep the community alive through projects such as Heroes and Villains or The Phoenix Project, the closure of City of Heroes could still be a topic of discussion in the months ahead.

Perhaps Disney or another publisher will step in if NCSoft agree to sell the title,  but only time and sheer determination from the fans can help make that happen.
