After recently releasing the new 1.40 update for American Truck Simulator, SCS has now also released the update for Euro Truck Simulator 2. This major update introduces a sleek new lighting engine, resulting in a much more dynamic image and an increase in overall visual fidelity. Just about every aspect of the sim looks better — lighting, reflections, weather effects, the skybox. There are noticeable improvements across the board. SCS Software has been hyping this update up for months and now all can enjoy it for free.
In addition to the enhanced visuals, the 1.40 update also brings improvements to the Germany map that’s included in the base version of Euro Truck Simulator 2. Part of the Revisiting Germany project, this update makes improvements to the map giving it “a more realistic and up-to-date look.” All of the highways and roads in virtual Germany have been revamped and reworked, and new intersections and roads have been added along a few routes. The road updates continue south into France, particularly for owners of the Vive La France map expansion. SCS Software also added two new locations for free — Bayonne and Lacq. There are also “two new connecting junctions in Toulouse and Bordeaux,” resulting in four new locations that will serve as connections into the upcoming Iberian peninsula expansion (still set to release in April).
The final part of the update includes improvements for two of the designs in the Super Stripes Paint Jobs pack. These can be applied to trailers that players already own.
Euro Truck Simulator 2’s major update alongside American Truck Simulator breathes fresh new life into both of these sims. Longtime fans have been eager to see the visuals pumped up for some time now, and new players may no doubt find all of the extra attention both titles are getting intriguing.
