Overhaul Games (a company featuring former BioWare employees) has announced that they will be releasing ‘enhanced’ editions of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2 later this year. The classic RPGs will be issued with their corresponding expansions (‘Tales of the Sword Coast’ and ‘Throne of Baal’ respectively).
The announcement adds that the games will make use of a “re-forged version of the Infinity Engine with a variety of modern improvements”. This is possible because, as ex-BioWare employee Trent Oster has stated on twitter, the team has access to the original source code.
Oster also confirmed that “many” of the original Baldur’s Gate team would be working on the projects, that mods were very important to them, and that further details (screenshots and the like) would be released next week.
The first game, Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition is due this summer.
