Cliffside Hamlet: Gerrod, the Elder Warrior
The next area in the game is called the Cliffside Hamlet. You’ll reach this place if you take the upper-right exit in the Crossroads.
There are three minibosses here:
- Western Merchant (a crow that shoots fireballs) – Two rooms from the northern exit of the Collapsed Shack respite.
- Headless Defender (uses a shield to block attacks) – The bottom-left exit of the Bridgehead respite.
- Cliffside Hamlet Elder (a giant monster that leaps and bellyflops on foes) – Upper-left Bridgehead exit, then take the northern exit.
Note: You can reach the Western Merchant’s and Headless Defender’s spots early on, but the Cliffside Hamlet Elder might require some skillful acrobatics. You can just wait until a bit later in the game once you have more mobility-enhancing perks like the grappling hook.
The boss here can be found if you go to the right of the Bridgehead respite. His name is Gerrod, the Elder Warrior, and he brutally swings a nasty hammer.
He also has a leaping attack and a sundering attack that travels through the ground.
Rewards: Gerrod, the Elder Warrior’s spirit skill lets you do multiple slow swings with the hammer. This is, in my opinion, one of the best attacks in the game. It does a ton of damage, and it easily staggers enemies. Gerrod also grants you the Giant’s Hammer (ground smash). Jump up and press down + the “X” button on your gamepad to pound the ground and break pustulant floors. Just remember that some pustulant barriers require you to drop from a great height.
In any case, it’s time to visit the Witch’s Thicket zone. Let’s talk about this in the next part of our Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights beginner’s guide.
