No matter which class you chose to start with in Elden Ring, you’re bound to encounter a few problems with your stat line. Maybe you dumped points in the wrong stat, or you’d need more on something else just to equip weapons that you prefer. Thankfully, there’s a way to fix those mistakes or if you just want to try a different build. Here’s our Elden Ring guide to help you find Larval Tears so you can respec or reset your attributes.

Elden Ring guide – Where to find Larval Tears so you can respec or reset attributes
The method to respec or reset your attributes in Elden Ring isn’t available by default. Instead, you’ll need to travel to Liurnia of the Lakes to unlock the Academy of Raya Lucaria and defeat Renalla Queen of the Full Moon (she’s going to be a nightmare for pure spellcasters).
Now, compared to Godrick the Grafted, whose Great Rune requires activation like a product key, Rennala’s Great Rune adds a function already. This lets you respec your stats in Elden Ring by talking to her once she’s beaten. There’s even a Site of Grace, the Raya Lucaria Grand Library, that’s right behind her so you can quickly go back to her chambers whenever you need to.
Note: When you respec your attribute points in Elden Ring, you’ll be free to assign the total that you’ve amassed since you created your character. The caveats are that your stats can’t be lower than the default value (i.e., if a class had 8 Dexterity during character creation, then you can’t lower it to 7 Dexterity), and you have to assign the maximum number of points based on your level.
However, the respec isn’t free at all, because we need to find some very rare items. These Larval Tears in Elden Ring act as a sort of currency and, in a number of instances, they’re dropped by mobs — specific mobs, mind you, ones that transform into other creatures that need to be killed again. In other cases, they might simply be found in a particular location. Below, I’ll detail the Larval Tears that I’ve discovered.
Limgrave: Agheel Lake South
You’ll probably stumble upon a location in Agheel Lake South where you’d see several giant tombstones carved along a hillside. It’s actually close to where we’d do the Troll Carriage rune farming and where we’d meet Sorceress Sellen.
In this area, there are several zombies milling about. There’s one all by his lonesome, and you’d think nothing of it until you kill the fella, whereupon he’d turn into a monstrous bear.
If you’re at a low level, then this can be very challenging. Much later, though, this minor encounter becomes trivial. Take out the beast to receive a Larval Tear in Elden Ring.
Liurnia of the Lakes: Village of the Albinaurics
If you look south from the submerged town, you should see a tall rock formation with a tower. I still haven’t figured out a way to get to the top. However, if you travel close to that landmark, you’ll see that the bottom is one large cavernous area. Check the rock wall to find a sloping path that leads to the Village of the Albinaurics (which has a bonfire).
From the bonfire/Site of Grace, cross the nearby wooden bridge. The section here has a Larval Tear that’s just out in the open.
Liurnia of the Lakes: Swampland
This next one involves another transforming creature. In Liurnia of the Lakes, look for a domed gazebo due southeast of Rose Church. Near that structure, you’ll find a lone crayfish or lobster — I’m not really sure since I’m allergic to crustaceans. Watch out for its attacks, especially its Bubble Beam that has a fast casting time.
After killing it, it will transform into a Grafted Scion. Since you’re mounted, you can gallop in a circle while targeting it. Bait it into doing a leap attack, then strike when it’s vulnerable. Killing this enemy will cause it to drop another Larval Tear.
Mistwood: Siofra River Well
The third Larval Tear that I found in Elden Ring is in Siofra River Well (big thanks to Keith Dwayne Mitchell for the tip). The well is in Mistwood near the Minor Erdtree. As you ride the elevator down, you’ll realize that it’s a massive underground area (you could even use your mount).
We’re not going to discuss all the items and secrets that you can find here. Instead, we’ll just focus on finding the Abandoned Merchant NPC. To get to him, follow the left-side wall when you arrive at the area. Then, ride the lift to yet another open space with trees, pillars, and ruins.
The goal is to head north until you see a platform that’s under construction. Before climbing it, make sure you tag the Worshippers’ Woods Site of Grace in case something unfortunate happens and you need to respawn.
Anyway, climb that structure using the ladders. When you get to the top, jump down a ledge that connects to the other structure. It will eventually lead you to a cavern where you’ll spot the NPC.
He’s got several items, including Stoneshard Keys, Nascent Butterflies, Dwelling Arrows, and, of course, the Larval Tear. He’s only got one of these and you can buy it for 3,000 runes.
Nokron Eternal City: Multiple locations
You’ll gain access to Nokron Eternal City after beating Starscourge Radahn in Caelid. Coincidentally, this secret area is also in Mistwood and it’s somewhat connected to the Siofra River Well mentioned above. I’ve discovered no fewer than five Larval Tears while exploring this location:
- When you reach the first Site of Grace, turn right at the courtyard and enter the church.
- Next, follow the main path leading down. There’s one in a gazebo in front of the Mimic Tear boss’ arena.
- The Mimic Tear boss drops two of these when it dies.
- As you continue to explore, you’ll come across a sub-zone called Night’s Sacred Ground. Progress further until you reach a chapel with a ball trap. Run to the exit and let the ball smash into the wall. You can destroy it to pick up a Larval Tear.
Note: I’ll be sure to update our Elden Ring Larval Tear and respec guide once I discover more of these key items.
