Elden Ring guide – How to dual-wield and use power stance

Both dual-wielding and power stance in Elden Ring work much in the same way in that you’ll need a weapon equipped in both hands. Simply open your inventory and make sure that you have your armaments in the first and second rows (i.e., right hand/mainhand and left hand/off-hand respectively).

After that, use the left and right buttons on the D-pad to ensure that these are actively equipped by your character. Attacks work in a similar manner wherein RB/RT and LB/LT are for your right-hand and left-hand weapons, respectively.

There are, however, a few key tidbits to remember:

  • You can’t equip a shield at all, as that defeats the purpose of dual-wielding/power stance. While you have the additional offensive capabilities, especially if you can chain hits effectively as you attack, you won’t be able to block or parry the hits from your enemies. Keep this in mind since you’ll often need to rely more on iFrames from your dodges to avoid damage as you lack defensive capabilities.
  • For power stance, you just need to have the same weapon type in both hands (i.e., two daggers, two curved swords, two greatswords, two katanas, and so on). However, pressing LB repeatedly will instead allow you to attack with both weapons at the same time for tremendous damage.
  • The game arranges similar weapon types under the same row or segment, so it’s easy to find the ones that match.
