Indie development has grown to become a prominent force in the video game industry. Companies like Electronic Arts (EA) have taken notice, even going so far as to create a publishing label dedicated to indie games. Some notable titles published under the EA Originals umbrella include A Way Out, Sea of Solitude, and Unravel. Today, the EA Originals label adds UK-based Silver Rain Games founded by Abubakar Salim. Salim comes from the acting world as well as having voiced Bayek in Assassin’s Creed: Origins and Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.
The new EA Originals acquisition of Silver Rain Games is more than just having a Hollywood actor behind the name. Abubakar Salim co-founded the studio back in December 0f 2019 and has grown the team to consist of a 20 people. “In what has been a challenging year, we have assembled an extraordinarily creative and worldly team who are eager to work on projects that bring their global perspectives to life,” said Salim. This includes all 20 members of the Silver Rain Games team working remotely on an unannounced title.
More to come
There isn’t much known at this point about what kind of title the team is crafting. The studio’s official site is fairly sparse with limited information available about current or future projects. In fact, it looks as though the unannounced title will be its first. At the time of writing this, the “Games” tab on the studio’s official site still houses a “Coming Soon” placeholder.
This time of year usually marks the point where companies like EA start to tease upcoming games for E3. Although the in-person event has been canceled, the show will still go on with Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. You can almost bet that the EA Originals partnership might be teeing up the reveal for whatever this project might be.
