EA sets up Need for Speed countdown site with Aug. 14 reveal

EA sets up Need for Speed countdown site with Aug. 14 reveal

Nearing the checkered flag.
This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

In late July, EA confirmed that the next Need for Speed game will make a showing during Gamescom later this month. However, it appears the publisher will lift the veil a little early. The company has launched a countdown site for the game, with a clock ending on Aug. 14.

We have known that a new Need for Speed has been looking to cross the development line since May. That was reinforced last month when EA released a financial report, showing not only a new Need for Speed, but another Plants vs. Zombies game as well. The very next day following the report, EA sent a message saying that it will “take the wraps off our new Need for Speed game heading into Gamescom in a few weeks.”

Naturally, we assumed the company would withhold any information on the game until then. However, it looks as if EA will raise the green flag early, possibly showing off a teaser trailer to get our engines warmed up.

The website itself is sparse, of course. With a simple black background and an NFS logo, there’s not much to do until the timer runs down. It will hit zero on Aug. 14 at 7:00 p.m. PST, or 10:00 p.m. EST.

Need for Speed Payback, while pretty, didn’t set many tires on fire.

Rev those engines

It has been two years since the last Need for Speed came out, and EA can do with some good tidings. Need for Speed Payback wasn’t quite the racing game fans were looking for. It wasn’t critically panned exactly. But it has been some time since the stellar Need for Speed: Most Wanted in 2005.

Beyond the possible teaser, more on the game should be revealed soon. Gamescom 2019 will begin on Aug. 20, where EA will likely show off the game in greater detail. Until then, keep your eyes on the clock.
