In today’s second surprising merger/acquisition story, Mark Jacobs has left Mythic Entertainment just as it’s being merged with BioWare.Jacobs, the general manager and co-founder of Mythic, reportedly left the company yesterday, although there’s no word on the reasons behind his leaving. Jacobs also functioned as lead designer on Warhammer Online, which is still going strong. Rob Denton will be taking over his role as general manager of Mythic. This all ties into the team merge, though. The official line reads “EA is restructuring its RPG and MMO games development into a new group that includes both Mythic and BioWare.” Denton will be reporting to Ray Muzyka, the general manager and co-founder of BioWare. For that matter, Muzyka will be taking on the role of group general manager for the new MMO/RPG studio, while Greg Zeschuk (BioWare’s other co-founder) will take the role of group creative officer for the new group. While we’re unsure of the circumstances, it’s not hard to speculate that the timing of these two events mean that Jacobs was shown the door, and that Mythic were put under BioWare’s wing. Perhaps EA is dissatisfied with the way Warhammer Online’s been going? We’re contacting all relevant parties for comment. Keep watching.
