Dragon’s Dogma 2 player abuses Thief vocation to cross a lake

No bridge? No problem.

As you traverse the lands in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll have to stick to the meandering roads as lakes keep jutting into your path. One player, however, used the Thief skills to prolong their fall and land safely on the other side.

Falling with style in Dragon’s Dogma 2

BroshiOmnominous, a Reddit user, shared a clip of them managing to leap over a pretty wide waterfall where a bridge had collapsed, landing on the other side.

The bodies of water in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are a nightmare, as there’s no way to cross them unless a bridge is nearby. And if that gets destroyed, then you’ll have to take the long way around.

Although the adventure is a huge attraction to the game, sometimes you just want to get to your destination without having to fight an armada of Goblins because a river cuts into your path.

Not many vocations allow for this sort of stunt, and it is difficult to pull off, but it’s worth it if you’re on a timely quest.

The player leaped into the air and used the Cleave attack to briefly suspend themselves to pull off the other skills to launch them over. Concussive Leap also worked despite not being off the ground, providing the surge needed to cross the waterfall. Finally, more Cleaving followed by Skull Splitter allowed for the graceful landing on the other side.

It’s worth pointing out that this is less of a leap, and more of a prolonged fall, as BroshiOmnominous started on top of the bridge, and ended up barely on the riverbank on the other side.

Upon seeing this, I immediately tried it out myself.

How to cross gaps as the Thief in Dragon’s Dogma 2

What began as “I’ll give it a try” quickly grew into “I must master this feat.” It’s pretty difficult to cross a meaningful distance, even with the Thief’s tricks.

Only the Cleave, Concussive Leap, and Skull Splitter helped me in crossing gaps, the others either didn’t activate or hindered my progress.

When trying to cross gaps, make sure not to use the Cleave attacks too much, as only the first strike really suspends you for the split second you need to ready yourself up for one of the other skills.

Using Skull Splitter was more useful than I had anticipated. I imagined after the brief high you achieve, you’d come crashing down vertically, but that’s not the case. Your momentum will allow you to keep buzz-sawing through the air in the right direction crossing more distance than falling would have.

Although you can’t cancel the Skull Splitter and you’ll be moving, thus falling, very quickly, it’s only really good for the final skill in the sequence. Using this skill also allows you to negate fall damage – for the most part. If you are traveling quite a distance, then you may take some fall damage and even stumble upon your landing.

Concussive Leap is a great skill for launching yourself off into the air – but it can only be used once per jump, even if spaced by the Cleave attack.

Considering you can only use Concussive Leap and Skull Splitter once, you can’t chain them into traveling huge distances, so to make the most of them, you’ll have to perform one Cleave attack before each Skill. Do some tests yourself to see the full effect of this before you try and cross rivers, though.

This ought to make some traveling easier, although there is no travel quite like Ferrystone travel.
