Stay out of your own way
The last two non-gameplay changes are pretty simple. The single-player story mode in Dragon Ball FighterZ was a great first attempt. It needs to be expanded on in the sequel. The developers just need to cut down the length, add some more original characters like Android 21, and include some incentive for players to return once the main story is completed. Every fighting game developer has tried to copy NetherRealm Studios and its single-player modes in Mortal Kombat and Injustice to no success. The truth is that fans of Dragon Ball don’t need a deep or complex story. Just some cool situations to set up what’s important: the fights.
The final non-gameplay issue might be impossible to actually achieve. It is something that Arc System Works doesn’t actually have control of, but it still needs to be said. Toei Animation needs to knock it off with its ridiculous handling of the Dragon Ball IP. This includes doing things like stopping tournaments from streaming the game. It accomplishes nothing other than alienating players and keeping others from seeing the game. Knock it off.
That is everything I feel that a potential Dragon Ball FighterZ 2 could do to make the game better and easier to play for everyone involved. For part two, we will dive into specific changes to the actual gameplay established in Dragon Ball FighterZ.
