Energy, the bank, and turn order
Every card has a number in the top left that shows how much energy it costs to play. You start the game with 1 energy. However, every turn your energy will refresh as well as grant 1 extra energy. For example, on turn one you start with 1 energy, 2 energy on turn two, etc. The other unique feature to Dragon Ball Card Warriors is the energy bank system. Any leftover energy not used during your turn is put into a bank, which is the box on top of your energy counter on the left of the screen. This should be familiar to Legends of Runeterra players as it is very similar to the spell mana system of that game.
Once per game you can add the energy in your bank to your normal energy count. This can make your energy go over the normal maximum of 10. There are some cards with a cost higher than 10 that can only be played by using your bank. Since the bank can only be used once per game, you have to be careful with how you use it. There are two situations that are best to use your bank for. One is when you are about to lose, and need the extra energy to play cards to survive. The second is when you are about to win and need to play a big card to end the game. There are also some cards that let you reactivate your bank and begin storing up energy again. These effects are extremely powerful and great for when games go extra long.
The player who goes first is determined randomly and the player going first draws three cards. You can then mulligan and draw one, two, or three new cards. If your hand is nothing but high cost cards that cost 4 or more, it is recommended to draw new cards. Keep in mind that you can only do this once. You’re stuck with whatever you draw, so be careful. The player going first also does not draw a card at the start of their turn. The player going second does though, and they will also start their turn with one energy in the bank.
Next we will go over some effects characters can have and the different modes in the game.
