Bioware Dragon Age 4 update production

Dragon Age 4 is ‘in the middle’ of production, and an update is coming later in the year

Ups and downs.

Dragon Age 4 development is chugging along, and is “in the middle” of production according to an update by BioWare’s general manager, Gary McKay. There are of course ups and downs in game development. McKay writes that the studio is pleased to reach this latest milestone. However, in more ambiguous news, it also marks a point when BioWare says goodbye to another key member. Christian Dailey, who was the executive producer for Dragon Age, has departed.

“As we continue our journey, we wanted to wish Christian Dailey a heartfelt farewell from BioWare,” McKay writes in the Dragon Age update post. “Christian started with us back in 2018 and has been a big influence on our games and leadership team, most recently as Executive Producer over Dragon Age’s development. The games industry is ever-changing though and sometimes folks want to go and try new things – we understand, but we will miss him as a friend and as a colleague. ”

For the most part, McKay outlines where the team is at with the game. Being in “the middle” of production, means the studio is still focusing on the meat and potatoes. Writing, environments, gameplay, and other aspects are being worked on as I write this out. Dragon Age 4, or whatever it’ll go by, is still deep in development. I doubt we’ll see it this year.

There’s Mass Effect, too

However, we should expect to hear more about Dragon Age 4 in an update. McKay writes that the team will release more information “in the form of blogs and social content.”

McKay went on to also include a quick note on the next Mass Effect. In the update, he writes that “AAA next-gen games take a long time to make,” and that BioWare’s main priority “needs to be quality, and that simply takes time to do it right.” In other words, don’t expect to see the next Mass Effect for a while. Both games are sadly far away from this point.
