Instead of the standard, arcade-like Call of Duty Zombies mode we are all familiar with, Treyarch is creating Modern Warfare Zombies, or MWZ. While that’s all well and good, does MWZ have split-screen co-op?
Modern Warfare Zombies (MWZ): Is there split-screen co-op?
The sad truth is that Modern Warfare Zombies won’t have split-screen. Though Call of Duty Zombies has had split-screen co-op since the beginning, MWZ won’t carry the tradition forward.
Though I am a moderate fan of DMZ and am looking forward to MWZ since it looks like DMZ with zombies, I’m very disappointed that the new Call of Duty Zombies won’t have local multiplayer of any kind. As far as we know, and as far as Treyarch has revealed, you’ll only be able to play MWZ co-op online, much like Warzone and DMZ, and not through split-screen.
I’m guessing MWZ doesn’t have split-screen because it would take too much processing to enable split-screen in a lobby with a bunch of other online players and hundreds of zombie NPCs. I don’t know anything about game development, so that’s my best guess.
However, games made back in 2007, like Warhawk (one of my childhood favorites), had four-player split-screen co-op in lobbies full of 100+ players. If they can pull that off back then, why can’t we get that now?
I know a lot of people, myself included, are bummed that the arcade-like COD Zombies is getting replaced with MWZ. I’m on the fence because I’m eager to see how good an open-world COD Zombies will play out, I’m really going to miss the old-school Zombies. Luckily, we have dozens of great maps to replay in the older games. Hopefully, the old-school Zombies will come back in one form or another in the future.
