If you’re used to video games like Diablo 4 and its seasons, you’re probably wondering how it works for the Last Epoch, which has its own thing called Cycles.
So what are Cycles, and do they work the same way as seasons do? We’ll explain everything about this unique system that Last Epoch has.
Last Epoch: Do Cycles work like seasons?
As soon as you jump into Last Epoch, you’re greeted with quick character customization and a choice of either a Standard or Cycle character. To anyone new to this action RPG, Last Epoch does have seasons, but they’re called Cycles.
Creating a Cycle character is like creating a seasonal character in Diablo 4, they’ll stick around until the next Cycle arrives and you can create a new character and build. Every few months, Eleventh Hour Games will introduce new content and rewards for Cycle characters. If you don’t care about the seasonal content, go for a Standard character.

With each new Cycle comes updated mechanics and activities for all players who create Cycle characters. It’s recommended that you create a Cycle character if you’re planning on coming back often to Last Epoch to try new classes, builds, and updated content.
Luckily, once the Cycle ends, your character won’t disappear forever. That Cycle character will transform into a Standard character, sometimes called a Legacy character, where you can access the usual Last Epoch content. So, you can still play with that character, but you cannot access any “seasonal” content from that Cycle, or any future Cycle.
Cycles are essentially Last Epoch’s version of seasons but with a different name. If you’re a Diablo 4 fan, you’ll understand how these “seasonal” characters work and you should feel comfortable with Cycles.
