Sunbirds, the in-game equivalent of hummingbirds (albeit much larger than the real thing), are found in the Sunlit Plateau area of the game, true to their name. They do not run away or make you chase them, thankfully, so it’s easy enough to approach one. As you’d correctly guess, sunbirds eat flowers and need to be fed those. Any kind of flower in the game is their liked food, making it easy to pawn off extra flowers onto sunbirds.

However, what’s unique about sunbirds compared to other critters is their favorite food. The color of the sunbird corresponds to what colors of flowers they like best. To get the sunbirds as companions fastest, keep in mind this color chart:

  • Turquoise (blue, pink, and yellow) sunbird: Green and pink flowers
  • Orchid (purple and pink) sunbird: Pink and purple flowers
  • Emerald sunbird: Green and yellow flowers
  • Golden (red, yellow, orange, and blue) sunbird: Orange and yellow flowers
  • Red (red and purple) sunbird: Blue and red flowers

Prepare and plan what flowers you gather to feed sunbirds using this chart. As with other critters, each variant of sunbird is only available on certain days and sometimes at certain hours. The rarest to find is the Orchid Sunbird, which is only around on Fridays from 9 am to 3 pm. You’ll need those pink and purple flowers kept around if you want a shot at getting the Orchid Sunbird as a companion.
