Lords of the Fallen, like other Soulslike titles, has an encumbrance and weight mechanic, to balance out the sort of gear you can hold with the build you’re rocking. Encumbrance can affect your ability to fight, and so should be handled accordingly to prevent you from being sluggish and slow. Here’s everything you need to know about encumbrance and weight in Lords of the Fallen.
How Encumbrance works in Lords of the Fallen
While Encumbrance and Weight are related, they are two different mechanics in Lords of the Fallen. Understanding how they both work will be the difference between nimbly dodging and rolling, to moving at the speed of a slug.
There are three levels of encumbrance: Light, Medium, and Heavy. At Heavy, your movements will be lagged and prolonged, as your character is struggling to handle all the weight thrown upon them. To reach Heavy encumbrance, the combined weight of all equipped items must be greater than your maximum weight.
As long as your equipped items’ total weight is below your maximum weight, your movements will remain sharp and fluid. The information displayed on the Encumbrance bar is relative to your weight and the weight of the items you’ve picked up.
Naturally, having a heavy encumbrance is difficult to handle, although it is not impossible, as your dodges and dashes will still function as they should. Due to the fast nature of the game, however, those extra seconds of sluggishness could be your end.

How to increase your maximum Weight in Lords of the Fallen
If you are struggling to equip all the items you want without breaching your maximum weight, then you’ll need to increase it. To do this, invest in your Vitality or your Endurance, as both of those stats increase your weight capacity. Each upgrade is only marginal, so you’ll have to invest a lot to make a real difference.
This is so players who are investing heavily into other stats for their build can’t also equip all of the heavier, better armor, as their playstyle will rely on being further away from up-close combat. Those who are investing the most into Endurance will also be investing heavily into more melee-focused builds and will be more inclined to wear heavier armor.
Those who are investing more in magic stats will generally be further away from the action with powerful spells. It wouldn’t really be fair if someone who could incinerate you in a moment also was decked out in full-plate armor.
I hope this has helped you understand the relation between your weight and encumbrance, Lampbearer. For even more Lords of the Fallen help, cast your gaze to PC Invasion.
