It appears that Blizzard is expanding two of its biggest franchises beyond gaming. With recent details that have made their way online, both Diablo and Overwatch look to be getting animated projects. The Diablo series has been rumored for some time over at Netflix, starting to swirl around September 2018. However, a recent update to the LinkedIn profile of Nick van Dyk, president of Activision / Blizzard Studios, suggests something is happening.

His profile notes that he’s the executive producer of the TV adaptation of Diablo, which will utilize an anime style. At the moment, the show is in pre-production, with no given release date.

Wait, Overwatch too?!

In addition to the Diablo update, the profile also notes that a series based on the hit game Overwatch is in the works. Alongside a creative partner, van Dyk ended up selling on a series. However, details aren’t available on it just yet, such as who is producing it or when it will debut.

Both of these series would be huge for their respective franchises. Not only that, but Blizzard could theoretically be prepping them to launch alongside their newly announced games. Both Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 are currently in the works, with features for fans to get excited about. However, neither have release dates at the moment, as they’re still heavily in development. Blizzard could hypothetically schedule their launch to coincide with the new series, giving them even more of a boost upon release.

The company hasn’t said anything officially about either series just yet. However, it makes sense considering how popular both are. And hey, seeing more animation from Blizzard, in one form or another, wouldn’t be a bad thing. We’ll let you know as soon as more details are available for either show. These are interesting times for video game adaptations, live or animated, coming to the small screen.
