There are a plethora of stats and buffs in Diablo 4 that can make your head spin. Do you ever read the stats of a new gear item, and you aren’t quite sure what they do? Since I’m new to the Diablo series, some stats can be quite confusing, such as the Thorns buff. If you have an item in Diablo 4 that has the Thorns stat on it, let me explain what that does.
What does Thorns do in Diablo 4?
Any new gear item an enemy drops has the chance of including different buffs and stats. Some are offensive, while others are defensive. When wearing these pieces of gear, your character will improve in certain ways. I’ll explain what Thorns does is Diablo 4, if you’re not sure what it is.
My first suspicion of what this meant was correct. Thorns is an offensive stat that will deal damage back to enemies when you’re hit. Think of it like your piece of armor actually has Thorns on it. If an enemy hits you, they will deal damage, but probably get a little hurt in the process.
Although this is technically an offensive stat, it kind of acts like a defensive one too. Having items with the Thorns stat on it or adding a gem into a Socket that deals Thorns damage is great. Usually, you can see a percentage number written beside Thorns. This is the percentage of damage the enemy receives after hitting you.
What’s interesting about Thorns is the fact that the damage is amplified based on your class. What do I mean by this? Well, depending on your character’s class, their primary stat is what Thorns is based on.
- Barbarian: Strength
- Druid: Willpower
- Sorcerer: Intelligence
- Rogue: Dexterity
- Necromancer: Intelligence
You’ll want to make sure that you keep your primary stat high, so Thorns can do its due diligence to aid you. Hopefully, you now have a better understanding of what the Thorns stat does in Diablo 4!
