Taste my (w)Rath(il)!

If you’re stuck on the first boss fight, Rathil, in Destiny 2 Warlord’s Ruin, don’t worry, I’ll help you out. The mechanics are tricky at first, but once you know them, you’ll breeze through Rathil and be ready for the next two bosses in this Dungeon.

After discovering the mechanics to beat Rathil in Destiny 2 Warlord’s Ruin, you’ll understand how easy of a boss encounter this is. Though there are a lot of adds which make it difficult, you’ll push through Rathil in a matter of minutes after understanding the loop.

The loop of the Rathil encounter goes like this: clear a bunch of adds and wait to get teleported into a lifting gibbet cage, get out and destroy the Taken Totem, deal DPS to Rathil, and repeat.

First, you’ll get teleported to the gibbet cage that ascends. You only have a few seconds to destroy the three Blighted Eyes around your cage.

They can be hard to locate, but there are always three and they ascend like a spiral staircase around your cage. If you don’t shoot them in time, you’ll die by spikes in the cage. If you do shoot them in time, the cage will open, which allows you to go into the next step.

How to deal damage to Rathil

Now that you are on the ground, you’ll want to start clearing out adds (because there are a lot of them) and locate the Taken Totem. You’ll see a buff on the left side of your screen called Imminent Wish. This timer is the amount of time you have to destroy the black orb inside the Taken Totem.

You need to be inside the white circle to damage the Taken Totem and your goal is to shoot it a bunch until the black orb inside shrinks down to nothing and vanishes. You won’t see damage numbers, but you’ll see hit markers. Once the black orb is gone, you can run away, find cover, and wait for Imminent Wish to end.

The moment it does, the DPS phase begins. The DPS phase doesn’t last for very long, so use your Super and dump your Heavy Ammo. You won’t get a DPS phase if you didn’t defeat the black orb in the Taken Totem in time. Either way, you’ll reset and start that loop all over again.

Once we figured out the mechanics, my Fireteam was able to defeat Rathil in three damage phases, and I bet we could do it faster. Luckily, the loop to defeat Rathil isn’t too slow. Stay consistent and you’ll defeat Rathil in no time.

Now that you’ve beaten Rathil, you’ll 100% need a guide to get out of jail. The puzzle section right after defeating Rathil is extremely challenging.
