Destiny 2: Getting Retrocausality and cheesing pikes in Deep Stone Crypt

Cheesing in the snow.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light wouldn’t be the Destiny game that players have gotten familiar with if it didn’t have cheeses. Now, with the release of the Deep Stone Crypt raid, players will be able to cheese the first encounter involving pikes to grab the Retrocausality exotic sparrow. Here’s our guide to help you out.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light – Deep Stone Crypt’s pike cheese and the Retrocausality exotic sparrow

Think of the sparrow section in Destiny 2: Beyond Light‘s Deep Stone Crypt raid as just the opening act. The goal is to use your sparrow or pike to reach the end while watching for your “Frostbite” stacks. If you get 10 stacks, you’ll die. But, if you reach a section with a protective bubble, you’ll gain the “Shelter from the Storm” buff that nullifies this effect.

Still, there’s a way you can cheese this to get an infinite “Shelter from the Storm” buff. You can even do this in conjunction with the “Not a Scratch” triumph which awards you the Retrocausality exotic sparrow.

Doing the cheese is actually simple:

  • Ride your vehicle and edge a bit outside the protective bubble.
  • Once you see “Frostbite” on your screen, hop back inside the bubble to gain “Shelter from the Storm.”
  • While “Shelter from the Storm” is active, hop back on your vehicle.

If you do this right, you should have the “Shelter from the Storm” buff active all throughout. Just try to avoid any deaths so you don’t need to redo the cheese. Oh, and if you’re battling mobs or brigs, just get off your sparrow/pike and shoot them normally.

For the “Not a Scratch” triumph, you’ll need to bring all six pikes from the first bubble all the way to the final one. If you’re having a hard time, you can even let more experienced players bring multiple pikes from the entrance to the exit. You may also teleport to the entrance if you need to grab a pike from the starting point.

Anyway, after all six pikes are underneath the final bubble, you’ll get the triumph completed. Go click on it via your triumphs page to obtain the Retrocausality exotic sparrow. Don’t forget to grab the first secret chest as well while you’re at it (the pike cheese lets you solo this entire part, too).

Note: “Not a Scratch” is a required triumph for the “Descendant” seal/title.
