Who would have thought The Final Shape and Destiny 2 would turn out to be a “marathon” thanks to its secret collection journeys? Here is how to get the Paracausal Geometries triumph, find the Paranormal Activities, and solve their puzzles in Destiny 2.
Full Paracausal Geometries triumph walkthrough guide, explained
The Paracausal Geometries is one of the many secret triumphs for The Final Shape’s title, Transcendent. It is very easy to follow yet a bit frustrating to complete given the repetitive nature of the triumph and its steps since it will have you complete a repeatable quest a total of 11 times per pair of Paracausal Geometries. These are shapes you have probably encountered while exploring Pale Heart, which is invulnerable to any damage.
Fortunately, by following the steps below, we can destroy them all, which will take quite a bit of time. Not only will have to complete several quests to be able to destroy them, but you will find yourself in a seemingly endless loop that, if you are not careful, will end up with you rage-quitting and uninstalling the game. Well, let us not get too dramatic and start our journey to getting the Paracausal Geometries triumph.
Completing Alone in the Dark quests in Destiny 2
Our very first step toward destroying these Paracausal Geometries is completing the infamous Alone in the Dark quest. You will be able to unlock this quest once you complete the main campaign and visit Micah-10 in the Arbor of Light, just next to our base in Pale Heart. Then, you will need to complete the following quests as part of the Destined Heroes exotic quest:
- Convalescence: Rootbound
- Convalescence: Underbrush
- Convalescence: Greenery
By completing these steps, you will be able to find and heal ghosts throughout Pale Heart and the Sol system, enabling Alone in the Dark to appear and become obtainable. This quest is repeatable and will have you find injured and lost Ghosts across Pale Heart so that you can heal them. Completing these quests will then unlock Paranormal Activities that will pop out across the different regions of Pale Heart, finally enabling you to destroy the Paracausal Geometries. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Recovering lost Ghosts in Pale Heart
As mentioned above, your very first task in the Alone in the Dark quests is to find the Ghosts scattered across Pale Heart. While this may seem like an impossible task given the size of the Ghosts, you will be directed by the onscreen markers and the approximate area highlighted on your map. So, travel to the nearest fast travel point and follow the marker to get near a Ghost.
Thankfully, the game will further help you find these Ghosts by enabling a detection mechanic that will pop up on your screen whenever you are very near to a lost Ghost reading “Near Objective.” The on-screen location marker will disappear if you get too far away from the Ghost. Once you find the Ghost, interact with it and you will be ready for the next step of your journey.
Opening Overthrow chests
This is perhaps the reason why I don’t particularly love completing this triumph: opening Overthrow chests. After collecting the lost Ghost, you will have to Overthrow the closest main area to the Ghost’s location and open Overthrow chests. These will appear after completing special objectives that will be located across the area with a blue marker.
Due to the percentage completion that each chest tier will grant, you will have to open a total of five different chests: two Tier 1 chests, two Tier 2 chests, and one Tier 3 chest. This whole step could take you 20 or more minutes depending on your skill, but you won’t be able to make it any faster in terms of chest opening, so bear with it.
Completing cysts across Pale Heart
The final challenge in this quest will be to complete one of the several six Cysts across Pale Heart. Both the lost Ghost location and which Cyst you will need to complete per each Alone in the Dark quest instance will rotate, with each Cyst having its own set of rules. That said, the structure remains the same: complete objectives, fight the boss, heal the Ghost.
Healing Ghosts
Once you obliterate the Cyst final boss, your Ghost will now have all of the Light it needs for its recovery. Interact with the Ghost to heal it and then travel back to Micah-10 in The Lost City to complete the Alone in the Dark quest.
Lost Ghost locations in Destiny 2
Let us now take a look at each of the lost Ghost locations in Pale Heart. Fortunately for you, there are only six different Ghost locations that you will have to discover during your Alone in the Dark quest completions. These six Ghosts are scattered through three different locations, with two Ghosts per location. What are these locations? Well, you have visited them during the campaign: lost sectors. No, don’t worry, you won’t have to complete them to collect them in case you were wondering.
The Blooming Deep Lost Sector Ghosts
Let’s start with The Blooming Deep, also known as the location where we first meet Luzaku, a fan-favorite character from The Final Shape campaign. As said above, there are two different Ghosts here, with the first one appearing on an opposing ledge right before the appearance of the first Prismatic enemies in the lost sector.
The second one is far down the lost sector after the very first main encounter and before the final fight. Turn around and you will see it on top of a tree trunk. Once you collect either, you are free to just teleport back to The Blooming and get to opening Overthrow chests.
The Broken Deep Lost Sector Ghosts
Up next, we have The Broken Deep lost sector located in The Impasse. The first Broken Deep Ghost is right at the beginning of the lost sector after the first confrontation. It is stuck in a corner right between some machinery.
The second one is right after the second confrontation, right when things begin to get particularly cold. Look up and you will see a platform with the Ghost lying there, freezing and lonely. Poor thing, time to heal it!
The Forgotten Deep Lost Sector Ghosts
Finally, the last two Ghosts are located in The Forgotten Deep lost sector in The Landing. Ghost number one is past the crystal corridor at the very first encounter. Just enter the room and look to the right, the Ghost will be lying there alongside the light shield breaker zone.
The second Ghost is located in the final encounter room just next to the first light shield breaker zone. It is at the edge of the building, so save it from falling and collect it. Just make sure you don’t fall with it!
How to complete all Cysts in Destiny 2
Now that we have collected our Ghost, it is time to tackle one of the six different Cysts in Pale Heart. Before that, you will be instructed to follow the Spirits of Lights – also known as the spirit birds – at each of the minor region entrances: The Refraction, The Divide, and The Transgression.
Each of these birds will lead you to two different Cysts, and you will be instructed to interact with them occasionally to “invert” the Cyst, a fancy way of saying to redirect the spirit to either of the Cysts. Let’s take a fast look at each of these Cysts.
Sword Dance Cyst
The Sword Dance cyst will probably be familiar to you given that it makes its appearance during the Convalescence quests after the main campaign as the very first Cyst you visit. The Cyst is quite simple: use the sword to gain the Light Shield Breaker buff to destroy shielded enemies and crystals to move forward.
The most difficult part of the Cyst is the final boss room with three different Lightbearer enemies. You will only be able to damage them with the sword, so you better practice your swinging chops. Moreover, be sure to destroy each of their Ghosts, otherwise they will keep respawning – I learned this the hard way.
Searing Light Cyst
Next up, we have a more action-packed Cyst: the Searing Light Cyst. Once you enter the Cyst you will be met with scorching fire emanating from the main room. To extinguish it, you will have to destroy three different crystals across the small corridors connecting to the main room, all of them guarded by enemies.
Once you destroy them, the fire will be extinguished and your next task is to destroy the boss with everything you’ve got. The fire will reignite and you will have to repeat the whole process to finish off the boss.
Aerial Ace Cyst
The Aerial Ace Cyst is even shorter than the previous ones. You will need to destroy the taken energy shields across the main room. There are two caveats to this. As you can see in the screenshot below, the whole area has lava in the ceiling and the floor, with only a couple of safe areas to step on.
And, most noticeably, the second caveat is that all of these energy shields are floating mid-air. You will have to time your jumps and shoot these while floating while also being careful not to step on the lava. A boss will then spawn, requiring you to destroy these shields again once the boss’s health is halved.
Moth-Infested Cyst
By far, the most annoying Cyst of them all is the Moth-Infested Cyst. It would be a pretty straightforward Cyst to complete if not because of the Moths. These little pests will fly toward you and explode right in front of your face, knocking you out if two of them explode at the same time.
So, to circumvent this, prioritize shooting them from a distance before you take care of the enemies in the room. This is easier said than done because the whole Cyst will require you to step on top of loading zones that will leave you open to Moth and other enemy attacks. Simply put: follow the marker, step on the loading zones, kill the Moths, and then defeat the boss.
Slayer Cyst
The Slayer Cyst is very similar to the Searing Light cyst. The boss in the middle of the room is invulnerable to any of your attacks and will shoot you on sight. While there are no crystals around to destroy, there are different corridors you will have to visit to find the items you need to destroy the boss’s shield.
Each of these corridors is guarded by Lightbearer enemies that you will need to beat to unlock the shield-breaking items. Similar to the Sword Dance Cyst, don’t forget to destroy their Ghosts to prevent them from reappearing.
The shield-breaking items I mentioned are power energy spheres that you will need to pick up and throw directly at the boss. The shield will break and you will be open to damage the boss. Do this multiple times to beat it. Oh, and please be careful with your aim since you can fail the shot and be forced to collect the energy sphere once again.
Smothering Darkness
Our final destination in this light-gathering journey is the Smothering Darkness Cyst. As soon as you enter the Cyst, you will get the Weight of Darkness debuff. This will prevent you from double-jumping. To get to certain platforms and locations throughout this Cyst, use the Taken vents to propel you across the room.
With that being said, you will then have to follow the Light Spirit in the room and destroy Taken energy blockers that will open up the way for it and your Guardian. Defeat the boss at the end of the Cyst and you will complete it.
All Paranormal Activity puzzle solutions in Destiny 2
Once you complete each of the Alone in the Dark quests, one Paranormal Activity zone will appear on the map that is similar to the Ghost location zone we have seen before. No worries, you will get an on-screen marker you can follow. Be wary that if you complete multiple Alone in the Dark quests, only one Paranormal Activity will appear at a time, While there are only 11 Paranormal Activities, you can re-run the Alone in the Dark quest indefinitely, so keep that in mind.
Use the location zone as a reference though, since the Paracausal Geometries will not be marked. Once you get to the Paranormal Activity zone, you will have to interact and commune with an energy field. This is what will allow you to shoot at each of the Paracausal Geometries, granting you a timed buff named Aure of Balance.
The trick is as follows: you will need to shoot at each of these Geometries with the corresponding weapon type: the red ones with Dark element weapons (Stasis or Strand) and the blue ones with Light element weapons (Arc, Solar, Void). However, you can only complete the puzzle if you can look at both Paracausal Geometries at the same time. Otherwise, you will break the energy chain and will be forced to restart the puzzle.
The Transgression Paranormal Activity
The very first Paranormal Activity is located at The Transgression, right inside the building past the sandstorm. Again, just follow the on-screen markers and you will be good. Both Paracausal Geometries are located on each side of the room, making this the easiest puzzle of them all. You can shoot them from the top of the structure in the middle or below it.
The Blooming Paranormal Activity
Our next stop is at The Blooming. Locate yourself below the light Paracausal Geometry and you will be able to shoot it and then move to your left to see the Dark Paracausal Geometry ready to connect.
The Impasse Paranormal Activity
The Impasse Paranormal Activity plays a bit more with perspective. This is located at the pyramid next to The Transgression entrance. Jump on top of a pillar to the east and you will be able to look and shoot at both of the Paracausal Geometries, the Dark being next to the pyramid, and the Light right next and below The Transgression entrance platform.
The Lost City Paranormal Activity
The Lost City Paranormal Activity is located right where you overloaded the Runes with your sword – which can get particularly tricky. Jump on top of the structure in the middle of the first platform you see when you get outside and look at the Dark Geometry to your right below and the Light right on top of you.
The Lost City Outskirts Paranormal Activity
Continue down the road and you will find The Lost City Outskirts Paranormal Activity zone. Note that this is an enclosed area where there are lots of enemies that will do everything in their power to frustrate you and your screenshotting intentions – maybe I’m projecting a bit. Locate yourself right in front of the window looking outside to the Light Geometry and then look to your left to see and shoot at the Dark one.
The Seclusion Paranormal Activity
Travel to the east inner portion of The Seclusion to find its Paranormal Activity. Once you arrive at the zone, locate the Dark Geometry in the left corner of the platform room. Shoot it and then turn to the left to find the Light Geometry.
The Landing Paranormal Activity
The Landing Paranormal Activity is a bit harder than the previous ones. Head to the west side of the building found next to the The Landing fast travel point. Look to your right and you will find the Dark Geometry behind the waterfall, then turn to your left and find the Light one on the edge of the road.
The Forgotten Deep Paranormal Activity
Travel to The Landing and head to The Forgotten Deep lost sector. Head to the first encounter right after the crystal corridor and stand on top of the second platform’s structure. To your left, you will see the Light Geometry on top of the roof. To your right, the Dark Geometry will be waiting below the platform.
The Blooming Deep Paranormal Activity
Next up. travel to The Blooming Deep lost sector and stand on the edge right in the middle of the initial platforming area. You will find both Geometries on both your right and left.
The Divide Paranormal Activity
The Divide Paranormal Activity is on the harder side of the spectrum. Head up to the airplane wreckage and jump down to a snowy platform as seen below. Below the plane, you will find the Light Geometry, with the Dark one being inside the plane’s cabin to your left.
The Refraction Paranormal Activity
The very last Paranormal Activity is located in the main area of The Refraction. Travel from The Blooming to get there a bit faster and jump on top of the platform above the ship’s wreckage. Face the waterfall and you will find the Dark Geometry. Look to your left below and you will see the Light Geometry.
Destiny 2: Paracausal Geometries Triumph reward
Once you complete and destroy all 11 pairs of Paracausal Geometries in their corresponding Paranormal Activities, you will complete the triumph and be rewarded with The First Knife ship. Be sure to use it to demonstrate your dedication and the fact that you Overthrow the Pale Heart’s regions a total of 11 times.
Are you ready to tackle each of the steps above? I’m sure you will be way faster than me. That said, I suggest exploring the regions above while completing the Alone in the Dark quests or the Cysts since they will have several feathers floating around, which make up the Flock Together triumph – which is another long challenge. Anyway, try to vary your activities if you care a bit about your well-being and state of mind, mine are long gone.
