Destiny 2 Beyond Light Deep Stone Crypt First Encounter Cylinders

Destiny 2: Deep Stone Crypt raid — Crypt Security encounter guide

The light and dark side of the moon (called Europa).

The first encounter in Destiny 2: Beyond Light’s Deep Stone Crypt raid can be a doozy. This takes part in the Braytech Facility’s “Restricted” area where you need to destroy several cylinders in the Crypt Security fight. Here’s our guide to help you out.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light – Deep Stone Crypt first encounter guide (Cylinders/Crypt Encounter)

Crypt Security: Loadouts/subclasses

Any class will be fine here, although you might want to have a Well of Radiance for the “DPS phase” since lots of mobs will still be shooting you while that’s going on.

As for weapons, I was using Falling Guillotine to quickly kill mobs. For exotics, Riskrunner might be very helpful due to all the incoming Arc damage.

Crypt Security: Teams and roles

  • Split up the team into two: light side and dark side. Light side refers to the room with bright lights and dark side refers to the opposite room with dimmer lights.
  • Two players on each side will be assigned as “Scanners.”
  • One player, preferably on the light side, will be the “Operator.”

Scanners

The goal of the Scanner is to kill a Fallen hacker vandal. It has a yellow icon on its head making it easy to spot (seen above). Normally, this spawns first in the dark side area.

The Scanner on the left side will then need to look through the glass to see the floor down below. You should spot five panels at the bottom of each side.

Here’s how the panels look like without a buff:

Here’s how the panels look like when you have the Scanner buff:

You’ll notice that some panels glow. These are the panels that need to be shot by Operator.

Since there are five down below for each side, your group needs to ascertain what the callouts would be like. In our case (for dark side), we had:

  • Dark 1 pillar; Dark 1 wall  – There were two panels in the first “hole” from the entrance, one on the wall and one on a single pillar.
  • Dark 2; Dark 3; Dark 4 – The remaining holes only had one panel each.

Note: Light side should have its own set of panels too. Unfortunately, I don’t have images since I was the Scanner for dark side.

Anyway, only two panels will light up at the bottom for each side. So, once you’re done calling these out, interact with the augmentation device. This will pass the Scanner buff to the opposite side.

The assigned light side Scanner picks it up, then calls out the two glowing panels at the bottom.

Note: Servitors will periodically spawn. While alive, these will prevent you from using the augmentation device to pass the buff.

The Operator

The player assigned as the Operator can pick up the buff from another Fallen vandal with a red icon on its head. If the Scanner/yellow icon vandal spawns in dark side, then the Operator/red icon vandal will always spawn in light side.

Anyway, as the Operator, you’ll be able to shoot the panels to open doorways, including ones at the back of the area which will lead you down below. Once you reach the bottom, listen to the callouts of the Scanners. Shoot the panels that they tell you to shoot since these are the ones that are glowing (even though you can’t see the glow effect).

Note: Callouts and shooting the panels need to be done quickly. If it takes too long, or if the wrong panel is shot, flames will coat the floor and kill the Operator.

After four panels (two on each side) have been destroyed, a couple of important things need to happen:

  • The Operator interacts with the augmentation device down below. The Operator buff will be picked up by any player without a buff.
  • The light side Scanner uses the augmentation device on their side. The Scanner buff will be picked up by the Operator.

DPS phase: Damaging the cylinders

This is, technically, a DPS phase. Take a look at the six cylinders in the area (three on each side). You’ll need to shoot the correct ones. Shooting the wrong one will cause the cylinder to overload and explode, causing a wipe.

Anyway, to know which cylinders are the correct ones, the Operator from earlier needs to have the Scanner buff down below. They’ll then look at the various panels to determine which cylinder needs to be shot in order.

Examples of callouts include:

  • Dark side right
  • Dark side left
  • Light side middle
  • Light side left

Note: Shooting the wrong cylinder for a prolonged period will cause a wipe.

Ideally, you should destroy three to four cylinders each phase. After this, make sure you pass the buffs again (i.e., the Operator player gets the Operator buff; either of the two assigned players up top grab the Scanner buff).

Repeat the same steps outlined above (looking through the glass, calling out panels, passing the Scanner/Operator buffs). After you destroy all six cylinders, the Crypt Security encounter of Deep Stone Crypt ends. Your next task is to fight Atraks-1, a Fallen Exo.
