Destiny 2 Black Armory Niobe Labs Bergusia Forge

Bungie Has Unlocked Bergusia Forge, Here’s What You Can Get

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

The entire Destiny community watched as dedicated groups, pro streamers, and random players failed time and again in their attempts to solve the Niobe Labs puzzle. 28 hours later, with the community up in arms and many gamers calling it a night, Bungie has finally decided to throw everyone a bone. They have unlocked Bergusia Forge automatically. This is the final forge in Destiny 2’s Black Armory DLC. Oh, and they even explained why they did it. In any case, with Bergusia Forge now available, it’s up to Guardians to discover the secrets it holds. We know that the Jotunn exotic fusion rifle is a possible random drop. Likewise, the Izanagi’s Burden exotic sniper rifle is the reward of the (extremely lengthy) Mysterious Box quest chain. We’ll explain more in detail.

Thanks, Bungie… I guess.

Bergusia Forge

Bergusia Forge has you facing off against Fallen once more. The entire room is in a state of disrepair. One might even joke that, for all the hours people put into getting past the Niobe Labs door, the forge itself isn’t even covered by a roof. Now would’ve been a good time to use our ships other than as simple loading screens.

Your “blue” enemies are:

  • Round 1 – Wretches and Servitors
  • Round 2 – Dregs and Captains
  • Boss Round/Round 3 – Fallen Walker

I would go so far as to state that Bergusia Forge might be the easiest out of all the forges. That’s because you can safely stay on the walkway over on the right-hand side. You can safely take out most of “blue” mobs while avoiding most of the exploding shanks on the ground. Have one person pick up orbs while two others provide covering fire.

You can also spot the two Shield Drones that spawn during Round 2 easily from this spot. This allows you to get Maximum Temper and can drop Obsidian Accelerators (later exchanged for Obsidian Radiance to boost Black Armory weapon damage in forges).

Destiny 2 Black Armory Niobe Labs Bergusia Forge Walkway

The walkway provides decent cover while keeping you out of dangerous exploding shanks and meleeing mobs most of the time.

As for the boss, the Walker isn’t even shielded, which means you can take out one of its legs and just wail away from close range, destroying it within seconds. Alternatively, you can go back up the ledge at the spawn point and snipe it until it’s destroyed. Then again, you could just cheese it with a Titan’s Banner Shield as suggested by Reddit user ImJLu.

A few more things of note:

  • Riskrunner is amazing for this Forge since it can clear out entire packs, even those pesky mini Servitors, whenever Arc Conductor procs (which is often).
  • You don’t need to have unlocked other forges (ie. Izanami) to start a Bergusia Forge run.
  • You can get weapon frames from other forges in Bergusia Forge. Even if, say, the Auto Rifle frame (Ringing Nail) requires a Volundr Forge completion, you can still get it from Bergusia.

Fun With Jotunn

As mentioned, the Jotunn exotic fusion rifle can drop in the Bergusia Forge. If you have a weapon frame that needs completing, bringing it to Bergusia Forge and finishing the activity can result in the RNG gods smiling upon you.

Holding the fire button lets loose a tracking ball of blazing death which explodes on impact — something that’s extremely deadly in Crucible. I guess you can think of it as a fusion rifle that lobs tracking grenades and whatnot? Here’s the weapon in action courtesy of YouTube user (aptly named) Lucky Logan:

Black Armory Key Mould — Izanagi’s Burden

Of course, no forge activity would be complete without visiting Ada-1. She will give you a mold for a Black Armory key. This is directly tied to the Mysterious Box quest line which, as dataminers have seen, would reward the Izanagi’s Burden exotic sniper rifle.

The Izanagi’s Burden is a kinetic weapon and will remind Destiny 1 veterans of the old “Final Round” perk. That’s because its exotic perk — “Honed Edge” — will consume the entire magazine when you hold down the reload button. Your next shot, however, will have additional range and damage. Again, this looks like it’ll be an absolutely devastating weapon in Crucible.

Apart from the Key Mould quest item, you’ll also notice that Ada’s selling Forge Polymer. This item requires a few schematics and shards but will give you a Black Armory armor piece upon forging a weapon. The Obsidian Accelerators (to boost your Black Armory weapon damage) can also be obtained from this tab.

Forge Polymer if you still need armor pieces.

What’s In The Box?

Bergusia Forge will culminate in the completion of the Mysterious Box quest line with Izanagi’s Burden as the reward. The first three keys have already been made available from the previous forges — Volundr, Gofannon, and Izanagi. You can check out our previous guides for these forges to spot where the Shield Drones are.

As for the final key, info had been datamined prior to the forge’s release courtesy of Reddit user Javano_.  Be forewarned that it’s going to be very grindy and time-consuming. Even a bit of RNG applies and you’ll want to be completely prepared (and lucky) to complete it this week. Oh, and be forewarned, you’ll want to be on a character that has an active/ready-to-turn-in Black Armory rare bounty.

Destiny 2 Black Armory Niobe Labs Bergusia Forge Watchers Leviathan

Watchers in the Leviathan’s Underbelly.

Step 1: Watcher Lens

Head to the Leviathan and open the Underbelly. If you’ve already forgotten the sequence for the levers, it’s 1-5-3-2-4-6. Go to the Engine room (or whatever room you prefer), kill the Watchers and the remaining adds. Go outside and reset the room. Repeat until you’re done.

Step 2: Glimmering Amethyst

You get these from event chests and strikes, with the latter providing the most bang for your buck. Just run Lake of Shadows over and over until you complete this step.

Step 3: Forge Black Armory Key

Remember those Bergusia Forge Shield Drones I mentioned earlier? You’ll need to destroy them in Round 2 to get Maximum Temper.

Step 4: Mysterious Decryption Device

Return to Ada-1 and she’ll provide you with the next steps.

Destiny 2 Black Armory Niobe Labs Bergusia Forge Forge Key Mould

Another fairly long quest line.

Step 5: Obsidian Crystal (Rare Bounty)

This is where RNG and luck come into play. You need to be on a character with a rare bounty. Completing one gets you past this step.

Step 6: Ascendant Glass Shard

This one requires you to complete Shattered Throne. So yes, you have this week to do this part of the quest chain. Otherwise, you’re going to have to wait three more weeks until Shattered Throne returns. If you haven’t beaten it yet, please refer to our detailed guide here.

Step 7: Lock And Key – Pyramidion

You’ll need to complete an enhanced version of the Pyramidion strike which has Solar Singe, Heavyweight, and Extinguish (booted back to orbit if you wipe).

Step 8: Lock And Key – Bergusia Forge

The last step requires you to complete this mission in the EDZ. You’ll face off against Siviks, the Spider’s estranged brother and the Kell you’ve been chasing all this time in the Black Armory DLC. After doing this, Ada-1 will reward you with the Izanagi’s Burden exotic sniper rifle. Here it is in action courtesy of Drewskys Channel on YouTube:

If you need a more detailed comparison, check out this post by Reddit user Salohcin265. The user compared the DPS between the Izanagi’s Burden and Whisper of the Worm. Clearly, Whisper came out on top and is still a must-have for boss fights. Izanagi, though, isn’t a slouch. As a primary weapon, it only does 100-200k less DPS than a power weapon like the Whisper.

The Last Puzzle: The Mysterious Datapad

You’ll also notice a new pursuit called “Mysterious Datapad” which gives you a riddle. Rather than keep yourself guessing, we’ll give you the solution courtesy of the folks from Raidsecrets. This will involve going back to Niobe Labs. Instead of taking the door to Bergusia Forge, you’ll need to start a mission from the lower floor of the room.

Puzzle Time!

Please note that you’ll need the following:

  • Tatara’s Gaze sniper
  • Spiteful Fang bow
  • Hammerhead machine gun
  • Izanagi’s Burden

Look through your weapon’s scopes to see where the symbols are. You’ll need to shoot these in order with the correct weapon:

  • missive/note (bow)
  • storm (machine gun)
  • temple (sniper)
  • morning/sunrise (bow)
  • star (machine gun)
  • hand (machine gun)
  • Black Armory symbol (sniper)

Once done, your next task is to “Survive.” To do this, you’ll need to kill all the mobs in the room, including shielded knights. The only way to break their shields and kill them is to use the powered-up shots from Izanagi’s Burden. Just hold down the reload button and fire. Watch the video below from YouTube user Cbgray:

Clear The Forges!

Once you’re done, you’ll have to clear all four forges while wearing a full set of Black Armory weaponry and armor. Note that raid weapons also count. Every equipment you have must be of these variants or you won’t get the completion tally. Don’t forget that you can use the Forge Polymer to acquire armor pieces you still need. May good fortune be on your side.

When you’re finished, speak to Ada-1. You’ll be rewarded with an emblem and a triumph for your troubles. Oh, and you’ll also see a cutscene of her getting plugged into the Matrix. Aussiehalo has got you covered for that if you want some spoilers:

Lock And Key Again?

The next step, however, remains a mystery. Players are required to speak to The Spider in Tangled Shore. After offing his brother, you’ve got some explaining (and celebrating to do). However, this quest “Lock and Key” — which has the same name as the two quest steps for the Izanagi quest chain — doesn’t do anything at the moment. There’s a possibility that this is a bug, or it’s time-gated content waiting to be unlocked in  the coming weeks.

Niobe Labs? More Like Nobody Wants These Labs

Niobe Labs was certainly a learning experience for both Bungie and the community. While Destiny players love secrets and puzzles, they have mostly been side activities or niche attractions. What Niobe Labs tried to do was put them at the forefront all for the sake of extra Twitch viewership in a race for world’s first. Things did not work out that way with Bungie’s puzzle design flaws and the community’s overactive imaginations getting the best of everyone.

In the end, with everyone having failed for over 24 hours, we have a new forge automatically unlocked with a couple of exotics to discover. Perhaps there might be a few more secrets left to find. We’ll keep you posted. For now, we do hope this guide has helped you out.
