Pokemon Tera Decidueye

Decidueye weaknesses and best counters in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Decidueye is arguably the coolest final evolution of all the Gen VII starter Pokemon with its unique Grass/Ghost typing and incredible ‘Robin Hood’ aesthetic. This winged menace is a force to be reckoned with, and that’s doubly true right now, as Decidueye just got the 7-Star Raid treatment. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have flipped the script on Decidueye, changing its type and, thus, its weaknesses and best counters.

7 Star Tera Raid Decidueye weaknesses and best counters

Decidueye gains the Flying Tera Type in Raids, giving it a glaring weakness to Electric attacks. Miraidon is one of the best counters, and the good news is you’ll already have it if you have Pokemon Violet.

If you don’t have Miraidon, heavy-hitting Electric Pokemon like Bellibolt and Ampharos work well for this raid. You really want a tanky Pokemon in this battle, as Decidueye hits like a dump truck and will take several turns to take down.

Decidueye’s Moveset

  • Brave Bird (Flying)
  • Leaf Blade (Grass)
  • Low Kick (Fighting)
  • Spirit Shackle (Ghost)

Rock-type moves would typically counter a Flying Pokemon, but Decidueye knows Leaf Blade and Low Kick, which Rock Pokemon have a weakness against. Decidueye gets a STAB bonus on every attack besides Low Kick.

Does Decidueye have any more tricks?

Unfortunately for your poor Pokemon, yes, it does. Raid Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet usually know a few additional moves. In this case, Decidueye knows Feather Dance and Sword Dance that decrease your attack and raise Decidueye’s attack, respectively.

With this in mind, you want to use SP. Attacks whenever you can. If you’re using Miraidon, it knows Parabolic Charge, which inflicts decent damage and recovers some of your health. Miraidon also learns Metal Sound, which will decrease Decidueye’s SP. Defense; something the whole team will benefit from.

Finally, the Raid Decidueye has the hidden ability Long Reach. This ability allows Decidueye to hit you with physical attacks without actually making contact, rendering abilities like Rocky Helmet useless.

Any tips for battling regular Decidueye?

Decidueye has several weaknesses, so you have plenty of counters to play with:

  • Dark
  • Fire
  • Flying
  • Ghost
  • Ice

In a competitive setting, Decidueye will often know Nasty Plot to power up its Sp. Attacks and Roost to recover HP. It’s important to remember that Decidueye is a little slow, so you can use that to your advantage. With so many weaknesses, Decidueye is easy to counter-pick against.

What will the next 7 Star Raid be?

Game Freak likes to keep information like this under wraps until the last minute. There has been a new 7-Star Raid every month in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet this year, so there will likely be another in the following months.
