Dead Island 2 Ending Explained

Dead Island 2 Ending Explained: What Does it Mean? Answered

Hopefully the DLC won't take 10 years.

For the most part, zombie stories don’t typically have a very nice ending. Somewhere along the way, you’ll see a lot of death and destruction, and normally they end on a bleak note. Dead Island 2 is surprisingly nice in that sense. The ending isn’t all doom and gloom like you may have expected it to be. But there are still a lot of lingering questions by the time the credits roll. So, let’s break down the ending of Dead Island 2 and what it could mean for the future.

At the end of Dead Island 2, Sam B, Emma Jaunt, and Patton all get on a helicopter to leave Los Angeles. But the player character decides to stay behind to try to find Tisha who went missing shortly after the Reubenator boss fight. Tisha is a pretty important character to find since she’s also the key to making a cure for the Autophage. But as of now, we’ve got no idea where she could be.

What makes matters even more sinister, is the last scene of the game. Once the helicopter takes off, the perspective shifts to Konradt, Thurston, and Cadenza on a nearby rooftop. Then Konradt questions why the player character would stay behind. The reason given is simply to save Tisha. Konradt then answers back saying “That the only reason?” Since her small group and the player character are both Numen, they have a unique perspective on the zombie infection. And the game ends with the player taking out a horde of zombies, clearly showing that they have no problems fighting off the infected anymore.

Ultimately, the player character has absolutely been changed by the events of the game. And their decision to stay behind in Los Angeles could potentially lead to dire consequences. But since the Numen and Tisha are the key to a cure, the ending of the story could also end on a nice note. However, as I mentioned earlier, zombie stories almost always end on a dour note.

What’s next for Dead Island 2

As of now, no DLC has been announced for Dead Island 2. There’s also been no word of any potential sequel in development. But since Dead Island 2 took almost a decade to finally arrive, it’s only fair for Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios to wait and see where things lie. There’s clearly a lot of story left to tell, and a big DLC chapter could tie up plenty of loose ends. Dead Island 2‘s ending certainly leaves room for more to come, so we’ll have to wait and see what comes next.
