The Castlevania series hasn’t seen a lot of love from Konami over the years. Apart from remasters of classic games, it’s been a long time since a new entry appeared. Luckily it looks like Dead Cells is here to somewhat solve that problem. The Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania DLC is set to release in March for Steam users and brings Castlevania back into the moonlight.
A lot of Dead Cells‘ inspiration dates back to Metroidvanias like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. So it’s nice to see the Return to Castlevania DLC pay full homage to that game. Dead Cells‘ fast-paced gameplay, alongside Castlevania‘s Gothic visuals, seems like a match made in heaven. And it should bring something new to the table for both Dead Cells and Castlevania fans.
Dead Cells – Castlevania DLC gets a release date for next month
The DLC features the player venturing to Dracula’s iconic castle to deal with the evil vampire and Death. These are two of the series’ big villains and will likely prove to give players a tough fight. Fortunately, it looks like we’re getting plenty of help along the way. The trailer features cameos from both Richter Belmont, and Alucard. These characters were featured in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, so it’s only right that they appear once again. The two feel right at home in Motion Twin’s reinterpretation of Castlevania.
But the DLC isn’t just bringing the visual aesthetic of Castlevania to Dead Cells. Players will also get to fight a bunch of classic enemies from the series. The trailer shows off skeletons, werewolves, and a few other blood-sucking demons to fight. And to fight them off, players will be able to use classic items like a morning star, throwing axes, shield, and more. You’ll even be able to use Alucard’s sword to teleport behind enemies and deal with them swiftly. The DLC also features classic Castlevania tunes, revamped for the rogue-lite adventure. Give the music a listen in the new trailer:
Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania will release for PC on March 6. The DLC on its own will cost $9.99 USD, while a bundle featuring it and Dead Cells is available for $22.99 USD.
