Remember that older tweet made by The DayZ development team on January 23 about its forums and the “outside security breach,”? Well, it seems that today they had to share more details about the whole incident that seems more serious than it first appeared.
“A security incident occurred on forums.dayzgame.com recently. According to our investigation all usernames, emails and passwords from forums.dayzgame.com were accessed and downloaded by hackers,” it says. “While the passwords were not stored in plain text, but in a more secure form, it is highly recommended that if you have used the same password elsewhere you change it immediately on all applicable websites and services.”
Most users have probably followed the development team’s older advice “to change your password, just in case”, but with the new information made available by the developers, you should definitely take a look at your account and protect your account with a new password.
Bohemia plans some “major changes” following this dangerous breach, so you should be prepared for upcoming service interruptions over the next few weeks.
For those who may not have yet checked email, here is an update on our recent security breach. Questions welcome. pic.twitter.com/4zEz03UL2s
