Hot on the heels of news that the Arma 2 mod Day Z now has more than one million players comes the announcement that it will be developed as a stand-alone game by Bohemia Interactive (makers of the Arma series). This is described as a “fairy-tale outcome” by mod development lead Dean Hall, who already works for Bohemia.
In his announcement, Hall states that development on the mod will run in parallel to the game (so you’ll all be able to keep on playing the mod) and that he’s looking to follow the “Minecraft model” of development. By that, he means you’ll be able to pay a heavily discounted price to get in on the alpha stages of Day Z’s stand-alone creation and that “fast iterations” (updates) will be planned all the way up to a final retail/digital release.
The stand-alone game now has an official website and Hall promises all further questions “will be answered” in due course.
Day Z will be on show at Gamescom and we’ll be catching up with Dean to find out some of those answers next week. Meanwhile, here are some of our own adventures in the mod.
