There are tons of new features such as creatures, missions, and even some worthy improvements. If you want to know everything coming in Dave the Diver’s upcoming October update, continue reading.
All features and improvements coming to Dave the Diver October update
Game Director Jaeho Hwang and Game Designer Nolan King in a Dev Interview detailed everything coming in a large update releasing in October. Although it was a pretty short video, there are tons of new features and improvements announced, so let’s dive right into everything coming in the Dave the Diver October update.
Nintendo Switch release
On October 26, 2023 Dave the Diver will release on the Nintendo Switch. This is a perfect game for a handheld experience. Also, the developers demonstrated how some minigames use the joy-con motion controls. The update coming this October will release alongside the game’s launch on the Switch.
New missions in Glacial Area
Inside the Glacial Area in the later parts of Dave the Diver, there were really only story-based missions. But now there will be brand new side missions to complete in this Glacial Area. Besides this, we didn’t receive any other information on what kind of missions they’d be. Although, most side missions are pretty simple, and typically involve Dave finding something or catching a certain creature.
New species: Crabs and lobsters
Crabs and lobsters will be included in the October Dave the Diver update. But you can’t just catch them like normal, you have to build a crab trap and set it somewhere in the Blue Hole. Then, just wait a bit, and check on your crab trap to find some crabs and lobsters inside.
To celebrate the new lobster species, you’ll also be able to host a lobster party event. There are many events like this in Dave the Diver, where you catch as many of that species as you can and only serve that species during the party.
Speaking on new species, Mintrocket also stated that there will be a better variety of night diving species. There was no more information said on what types of new creatures we’ll see at night, but just know that night diving will get a little more exciting.
Farm updates: Automation and egg storage
The players have asked for farm automation, and the developers listened! Now, you won’t have to continuously visit your farm to make sure it’s weed free and watered properly. You’ll just have to speak with Sammy to hire him for a labor contract, which initiates farm automation.
This update will also add an Egg Storage Box to prevent eggs from spoiling too fast. Not only that, but there will also be a Chicken Feed Dispenser. This will allow you to feed your chickens easier without you having to constantly do everything yourself. Just remember to still check your farm every few days to empty the Egg Storage Box.
Speaking of farms, there are also some improvements to the Fish Farm. You can now raise crabs at the Fish Farm, since you weren’t able to before. I’ll also assume that you can do the same for lobsters, but that wasn’t confirmed in the Dev Interview.
Marinca completion reward
Players were complaining previously that after completing the Marinca (the marine creature encyclopedia), there was no reward for them. Luckily, in this next update, players will gain their desired reward. You’ll be able to fight a new boss, which upon defeat, will give Dave some type of reward.
New characters
There are a couple new characters added with this October update that provide various benefits. To start, there’s a new VIP customer called the Wandering Merchant. Once you befriend them and create their desired dish, you can purchase crops from him. Also, he’ll sell Secret Recipes that only the merchant can provide.
There’s also a new contact in your phone called the Operator. If you call this person, she’ll read you your fortune (you can do this daily), and you can even see what activities are happening in the Blue Hole. Not only that, but the Operator allows you to enter promo codes for prizes.

Kazhin’s Seed Shop improvements
At Kazhin’s Seed Shop, you can now upgrade Seaweed Seeds, alongside other seeds you have. When you upgrade your seeds, they’ll get you a better yield upon harvest. Also, the developers realized players were complaining about how the seed shop and farm were far from each other. Now, Gumo the farmer can directly sell you seeds to make planting seeds easier.
Thresher Shark balance changes
Upon hearing complaints about how difficult the Thresher Shark was to fight, the October update will help balance this. In the upcoming balance changes, the Thresher Shark will have a limited range of sight, pursuit speed, and damage output.
Steam Points Shop items
Finally, with the October update, you’ll be able to decorate your Steam profile with Dave the Diver themes. You’ll be able to purchase Avatars, Backgrounds, and Avatar Frames to represent your love for this indie game.
October update release date
Sadly, there was no release date announced in the Dev Interview. But since Mintrocket stated that the Switch version of Dave the Diver will come with the update, it should release between now and October 26.
