To publishers, PC gamers must sometimes seem incredibly hard to please. After a month or so of will-they-won’t-they rumours and information, Dark Souls has been officially announced in PC form. The ‘Prepare to Die’ edition will include two new bosses … and a nastier surprise; integration with Games for Windows Live (GfWL).
PC users aren’t big fans of that service, which is synonymous with lost saved games, log-in errors, poor online support, unnecessarily intrusive design and a myriad of other problems. Now, instead of unrestrained joy at seeing IncGamers’ number one game of 2011 brought to their format of choice, many PC owners are expressing disappointment. A petition to remove GfWL has already sprung up online.
While PC players must seem perennially ungrateful to outside observers, we’re actually not that hard to please. All you need for a successful port is: proper menus, solid mouse and keyboard controls, decent graphics configuration options and no GfWL.
Still, the prospect of Dark Souls on PC is a terribly exciting one which even GfWL cannot dampen. The game is coming on 24 August and includes the following extras:
-New Bosses – Including Artorias of Abyss, Chimera of Tomb, and more
-PVP Online Matchmaking System – Quick matching for co-op or PVP
-New Areas – Including Oolacile Tomb, Old Ruins and more
-New Enemies – Including Abyss Guard, Chained Prisoner and more
-New NPCs – Including Hawkeye Gough and more
-New Weapons and Armor – Equip some from the new bosses, enemies, and NPCs
