Cyberpunk 2077 mod exploit

Cyberpunk 2077 mods may add exploits, developer warns

Great, even more problems.

Cyberpunk 2077 is, as you’re aware, very popular. As such, the PC version is already seeing its fair share of mods, with more undoubtedly on the way. However, there are inherent issues arising due to these. The game uses external DLL files to execute code, and this has created a notable vulnerability when using mods or altering saves. CD Projekt RED is expecting to have a patch ready shortly, but it’ll pay to be mindful of any vulnerabilities until it’s released. A representative of the developer had the following to say to Eurogamer:

“A group of community members reached out to us to bring up an issue with the external DLL files the game uses,” a CDPR representative said. “This issue can be potentially used as part of a remote code execution on PCs. We appreciate their input and are working on fixing this as soon as possible. In the meantime, we advise everyone to refrain from using files obtained from unknown sources. Anyone who plans to use mods or custom saves for Cyberpunk 2077 should use caution until we release the aforementioned fix.”

What comes around

However, if you don’t want to wait for an official patch, there’s another way. As noted by Eurogamer, fans have already put out a plug-in, called Cyber Engine Tweaks, that helps protect people from the exploit. The plug-in not only addresses the issue in question, but adds additional functionality, such as removing pedestrians and adding a debug menu. Regardless, I’m sure it won’t be long until CDPR’s fix comes along, but a mod manager is typically a good idea to consider.

Just be careful. There’s no reason to get your PC abducted by Techno-Martians all because you needed a gun with the giant vampire lady from Resident Evil on the barrel. Actually, that sounds like a pretty good idea. Any of you people know how to mod guns in Cyberpunk 2077?
