Keanu Reeves made a big splash during Microsoft’s E3 2019 briefing. Not only did he gave one lucky audience member the best pick-up line ever (“Keanu Reeves said I’m ‘Breathtaking'”), but he is also one of the main stars in CD Projekt RED’s upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077. We found out recently that he would have a very critcal role in the game. However, as information comes trickling out of E3, we are starting to learn just how big that role is.
It turns out that Keanu Reeves has undergone about 15 days worth of recording time for his role as Cyberpunk 2077‘s Johnny Silverhand, as detailed during an E3 Colessium event earlier today. This would put Reeves’ character with the second highest amount of dialogue in the game. He sits just below the player character, V. So, prepare yourself to hear a ton of comments from Reeves in the game — or, as Geoff Keighley puts it, “a lot of one-liners.” I’ll go on the record here and predict that one of those lines will be a John Wick joke coming from the player either hurting a dog or seeing someone else do it.
So much talking
Writing Johnny Silverhand with this much dialogue does make sense. From what we know of the character, it sounds like he’ll serve as a holographic companion to the player through a large portion of Cyberpunk 2077 (if not the entire game itself). PC Invasion’s Greg Bargas saw Cyberpunk 2077 at a behind-closed-doors demo, and he described Silverhand’s relationship with the player as being “along for the ride to assist the main character.” He will also aid the player will advice during gameplay, such as telling them “to get up and get moving.”
Now that we know there is so much spoken dialogue from Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk 2077, I want to hear some of the things that you think he’ll say. Will there be a Matrix joke or a Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure reference? I mean, they have to be planning some sort of “You’re Breathtaking” bit now, right? Or, do you think it will be a completely serious role all around? Leave me your predictions in the comments below!
