Cyberpunk 2077 is a very different game after its 2.0 update. Many of its prior gameplay mechanics and systems have been completely reworked now. And one of the areas that has seen a total makeover is the armor system. Before you had to mix and match various ugly bits of clothing to get the best armor rating. But no one was really happy about that and finally CD Projekt Red has done something about it. Here’s how you increase armor now in Cyberpunk 2077.

First off, clothing is now an entirely cosmetic aspect of Cyberpunk 2077. It has no bearing on your armor value whatsoever. This means you can finally wear whatever you want without having to create Wardrobe presets. However, if you still want to head over to your wardrobe and create some presets you can still do that. Just bear in mind that a few armor pieces do still have an effect attached to them. For instance, the Militech Heavy Tactical Vest reduces reload time by 8%.

But as far as raising your armor in Cyberpunk 2077 is concerned, there is now a completely revamped system for it. Armor is now handled by certain Cyberware you can buy at a Ripperdoc. Cyberware for your Nervous System, Integumentary System, and Legs all have options that increase your armor. The core armor value is noted by the blue vest icon next to the yellow Cyberware cost symbol. If you want to tank more hits in Night City, you’ll need to spend a lot of money tuning up your augmentations here.

As a bonus, you can grab the License to Chrome perk from the Technical Ability tree for a +40 boost to the armor stat. You’ll want to play around on this tree since its where the new Cyberware perks are located. And if you need to increase your Cyberware capacity, you’ll need to unlock the relevant perks. All in all this new system streamlines armor in Cyberpunk 2077 and makes it far easier to manage. It may be pricey, but investing in good protection is never a bad idea.
