In what is either a situation right out of the game itself, or a very straight-faced ARG, CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077 is the center of a ransom plot. According to the studio, internal files (including early design documents for Cyberpunk 2077) have been stolen.
The “unidentified individual” has made a ransom request to CD Projekt, stating that unless the money is paid the documents will be made public. Rather than do that, the company has decided to just go public about the whole affair instead. “We will not be giving in to the demands of the individual … The appropriate legal authorities will be informed about the situation,” their statement says.
As a result, of course, the documents may indeed make their way into the public domain. CD Projekt suggest the documents are “old” and now “unrepresentative” of the game. They reiterate that proper announcements about Cyberpunk 2077 will be made “when the time is right”.
