The end of the week brings another DayZ development update from the now expanded team at Bohemia Interactive.
Development this week has been getting the experimental branch to the live servers but things didn’t quite go to plan. They have been working on the way collision works which would resolve bugs such as world and zombie collisions. The new physics system is also on the experimental branch as well the recent server performance improvements.
Due to the bugs that have arisen with all the new additions on the experimental branch, the team are holding off pushing it onto the live server for now. You can still check all the changes out on the experimental servers at the moment if you fancy a look.
Cooking development continues with different types of fireplace being tested and now they’re on to constructible ovens and going as far as utilising the temperature system which will “have correct return from hot or cold to ambient temperature”. Do we really care how hot something is?
Survival combat is also still being worked on so throwing items and the bow and arrows functionality discussed in last week’s update is part of that development. Throwing now has a new animation which will also support “proper animations” for drawing the string on a bow.
DayZ development will continue to focus on the survival combat and cooking for the next few weeks and they’re hoping to get the delayed 0.37+update on to the live servers as soon as possible.
Progress is being made, even if it is slow, and they’re now investigating how to release vehicles into the game as well as barricading and advanced physics.
The DayZ updates probably feel slower than they really are at this point in time, the game has been in Early Access for a few months now and current content has been consumed rapidly by players.
Vehicles will be a huge milestone for the team and the addition of  transport is probably one of the most anticipated features for current players. With the now expanded team on the case hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for vehicles. I want a bicycle damn it!
