When asked about the reasoning behind his move from executive producer on Champions Online to CCO of Cryptic, Roper explained that the company was still evolving, and that he’s keen to help resolve the issues that both Champions and Star Trek Online are facing:

“Our games have been good, but not great, and that doesn’t make us happy,” Roper told us. “We’ve taken steps to recognize, acknowledge, and correct the issues that have contributed to this. We have new development processes, new design principles, and a revitalized and renewed dedication to staying in direct contact with our communities.” He added “Personally, I’m excited to work with all of the teams to do whatever I can to keep us moving in the right direction and improve our games in every way possible.”Since the launch of both STO and Champions, it’s been clear that Cryptic is determined to give players what they want by asking for community feedback and swiftly acting on it. Let’s hope the job re-shuffle helps the studio even further.

We’ll have an interview with Bill Roper and Cryptic’s Jack Emmert this weekend, where they talk about their recent job changes and the effect it will hopefully have on Cryptic’s existing titles and any possible new ones.
