Cryptic Studios and Atari have announced the development of Neverwinter for the PC. Neverwinter is a new online roleplaying game based on Wizards of the Coast’s Dungeons & Dragons and the city of Neverwinter.
In Neverwinter palyers will choose from five D&D classes and play with either AI or friends online in co-op groups. The game also features a content generation system which will allow players to create their own storylines and quests which is one feature that appeal to RPG fans.
“We’re beyond thrilled to develop a brand new version of Neverwinter. It’s been years since the original became a gaming icon and we’re honored to work with such a great franchise,” said Jack Emmert, COO of Cryptic Studios. “We’ve been working closely with Wizards of the Coast and R.A. Salvatore to create an authentic D&D adventure filled with compelling fiction and exciting gameplay.”
The game will coincide with the release of a book trilogy from R. A. Salvatore  which will act as a preview of the PC game’s settings, charactrer and monsters. A new tabletop RPG from Wizards of the Coast is also planned for next year.
Neverwinter has been scheduled for release during Q4 2011 and hopefuly Cryptic will put the time in with this game and make sure the release is polished. An official website is also now online.
