How to heal and reinforce units in Company of Heroes 3
Returning to your HQ
There are several methods to heal and reinforce units in Company of Heroes 3. The most basic method, which you’ll learn just a few seconds after starting the tutorial, is moving a squad back to your headquarters (HQ). There, you have the option to manually reinforce the squad so it regains all lost troop members (up to its limit). Alternatively, you can activate the automatic reinforcement button in the building’s panel. Likewise, routing units can retreat back to your HQ, which allows them to get their numbers back up before returning to the thick of the fray.
Medical Stations
As you progress further in the campaign, you’ll get scripted missions where some strategic points can be converted into Medical Stations. They will have a similar function to your HQ in that they’ll replenish lost troops while a team is within range and not in combat. Make use of them when necessary, as they act as forward bases in case you have to advance deeper into enemy-held territory.
In skirmish matches, though, you’ll have to build a Medical Station or Field Infirmary within your HQ’s territory. These will allow AI-controlled medics to automatically bring any wounded back to friendly lines. In turn, units that have suffered casualties can be reinforced if they stand idle within range. Here are some other tidbits:
- US Forces have the Medical Station and British Forces have the Field Infirmary. A British Forces Battlegroup option lets you upgrade strategic points into Field Infirmaries, akin to what you’ve seen in some campaign missions.
- The Wehrmacht can get the Medical Station upgrade for the HQ. A separate building does not need to be constructed. Meanwhile, the Afrika Korps has an HQ that can automatically reinforce without the need for an upgrade.
Vehicles
Moreover, you can heal and replenish units in Company of Heroes 3 by way of certain vehicles. Here are a few examples:
- US Forces – M3 Armored Personnel Carrier (reinforce by default; can get the Medical Conversion upgrade to heal).
- British Forces – Dingo Light Scout Car (heal only); CMP 15cwt Truck (reinforce by default; can get the Medical Conversion upgrade to heal).
- Wehrmacht – 251 Medium Carrier (reinforce by default; can get the Medical Conversion upgrade to heal).
- Afrika Korps – 250 Light Carrier (heal only); 2.5-ton Medical Truck (heal and reinforce).
Simply move an infantry squad within range and make sure they’re not in combat. If a vehicle is able to heal, you should see the Distribute Medical Supplies button. Healing, in this case, only refers to restoring the HP of soldiers (if they’re alive). This will not automatically reinforce the unit itself in case it has incurred casualties.
To replenish your losses, you’ll need to check if a vehicle has the “Can Reinforce Infantry” description. Alternatively, those that can only reinforce by default should have a Medical Conversion upgrade if you also want them to heal.
