Publisher Kalypso Media has announced Commandos 3 – HD Remaster, which is set to release this September. The remaster of the classic real-time tactics game will launch on Steam and PC Game Pass as a day one title.
On its Steam page, Commandos 3 – HD Remaster is described as featuring “reworked 3D models, and textures, improved controls, and refined UI.” There is also a selection of accompanying screenshots that provide insight into what the remaster looks like. From these screenshots, it’s easy to tell that developer Raylight Games has improved the visuals while respecting the original’s aesthetic. In terms of content, Commandos 3 – HD Remaster promises “iconic WWII campaigns” across three major frontlines.
Raylight Games was not the original developer of Commandos 3, but it does have experience with the franchise. It developed Commandos 2 – HD Remaster alongside Yippee Entertainment in 2020, and it was fairly well received. A common complaint of that game, though, is that it’s buggy. Hopefully, by the time Commandos 3 HD Remaster‘s release date comes around, Raylight will have addressed any noteworthy bugs.
Speaking of Commandos 2 – HD Remaster, fans of the series will be able to purchase both games together. Kalypso Media is releasing the Commandos Double Pack, which bundles both Commandos 2 – HD Remaster and Commandos 3 – HD Remaster together. It should offer a good deal for those who are looking to get into the series.
Life under Kalypso
As a publisher, Kalypso Media has expanded greatly over the last few years. One of the acquisitions made to advance this expansion was in 2018 when it acquired the rights to the Commandos series. Previously, Commandos was the property of Pyro Studios, a Spanish developer that went bust in 2017. Under Kalypso Media, the second game was remastered in 2020, and now the third game follows suit. An unnamed new entry in the series is being developed by Claymore Game Studios.
