I’m always fairly happy to see novel concepts, so Investigate North’s Cloud Chamber has caught my attention.
The newly-announced game has players piecing together events by navigating a 3D “datascape” in which you collect nodes of information – ranging from video diaries and film footage through to science journals and astrophotography – and then discuss them with other players to try to fit things together. Reminds me a little of In Memoriam, although it sounds like it’ll be less puzzle-y, and the people you’re interacting with will presumably be real. The videos themselves will feature actors including Gethin Anthony (Renly Baratheon from Game of Thrones) and Jesper Christiensen (Mr. White from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace).
The plot revolves around Kathleen Petersen, a young scientist exploring the circumstances of her mother’s death at the Petersen Institute. This leads to a number of revelations about her father, the Institute itself, and “the existence of communicative rhythms in the fabric of space.”
A Danish beta that took place last year was apparently much lauded, and the concept is certainly interesting. You can have a looksee at a trailer and some screens below. Cloud Chamber itself is due out later this year.
