Companions, tools, requirements, and final preparations
Chernobylite‘s Heist mission has several requirements. However, you can start it even without meeting certain tallies. Just know that it’s possible for you to fail and some decisions might not be available while you’re doing the mission itself. Moreover, some companions might think that you’re simply going on a suicide mission. They wouldn’t even help you out if they feel that you’re unprepared. Also, try to keep everyone at “Good” to “Bad” relationship status to prevent them from leaving anytime during your playthrough (which happens when they reach “Terrible” status and you do something wrong). There’s only one exception to this rule and that’s Olivier.
Key requirements
Apart from the four VR investigations/simulations, the Heist mission in Chernobylite requires five companions whom you need to recruit beforehand:
- Olivier – Automatically joins at the start of the campaign. Later, if Kozlov is alive, you’ll get the “Hard Truth” mission which reveals that Olivier has been spying on your group all along. You have the option to boot him out or keep him around. Choose to have him stay. Likewise, make sure that Olivier is at “Good” relationship since this will be important once you’re playing the Heist mission in Chernobylite.
- Mikhail – Can be recruited during “Mikhail in Trouble.”
- Olga – During “Traitor,” don’t kill the scavenger (Kostya). Later in “A Voice in the Woods,” you can free him from his cell. Tell Olga about this and you’ll be able to recruit her.
- Tarakan – Can be recruited during “Crumb Trail.”
- Sashko – Can be recruited during “Final Exam.”
You’ll also need a few tools that will provide additional options during the mission:
- Uniform 1 – Found during “A Few Things from an Old Hideout.”
- Uniform 2 – Found during “Checkpoint Assault.”
- Explosives – Found during “Hardware for Real Men.”
- Semonov’s secret passage map – First, you’ll need to meet Semonov in “An Old Friend.” Then, if you shoot down the helicopter in “Big Fish,” you have to help him/keep him alive. Later, you will receive the “Chain Reaction” mission from him. Once you reach the building’s rooftop, you’ll find the map (seen in the image below).
- Kozlov’s password – Progress through the game until you reach a point when the group asks you what to do with Kozlov. Choose to kidnap him (“Kozlov Kidnapping” mission). During this quest, meet Kozlov, kidnap him, and bring him inside the portal to get interrogated. He’ll divulge the password, but you want to let a companion execute him.
Other tidbits
With all these tasks completed, as well as the four investigations/VR simulations, you’re ready to start the Heist mission. However, there are other key factors that can affect how well the run would go:
- Semonov has to die – Yes, you’ll keep him alive long enough to obtain the map. But, you need to kill him later during “Some Excuses.” If he’s still around when you do the Heist mission, it can have adverse effects which I’ll explain later.
- Glyeb has to be alive – In the mission “On the Other Side of the Barricade,” you’ll meet a Little Stalker named Glyeb. Choose to let him out of his cell and have him go to Olga’s village. Then, in a later meeting with Kostya (the guy from the “Traitor” mission), do not support his idea to take control of the town.
- Kozlov has to be alive – As mentioned earlier, you’ll be able to kidnap Kozlov instead of killing him. You can also spare him and tell your associates not to execute the man. He will then give you a mission called “Hard Truth” (the same one where you find out that Olivier’s been spying on you).
If you meet the above requirements, Glyeb will be nice to you and he’ll be in Olga’s village. Since you didn’t help Kostya overthrow the leader, the NAR mercenaries won’t arrive to destroy it. Likewise, because Kozlov is alive, you can tell him where to find Glyeb (who’s actually his nephew) back in the small town. If Glyeb was in the village but it got destroyed, Kozlov will be heartbroken. If Glyeb was left in the cell, he’ll have no connection to Igor once Kozlov reunites with him. These decisions will have far-reaching consequences once you progress further in Chernobylite‘s Heist mission.
Speaking of decisions, let’s talk about the important choices you’ll make to keep everyone alive during the Heist itself. Let’s go to the next part of our guide.
