Chernobylite’s endings and epilogues
After defeating the Black Stalker, you’re given two choices on what you need to do. You can either destroy the portal or travel through it.
Destroy the portal
Although the real Igor is dying, he admits that you (his and Tatyana’s son) must end their suffering. Tatyana has been experimented on for long enough, and she can’t be the conduit for the chernobylite entity. If you choose this option, the portal will collapse and the building will soon follow. Look at your HUD and follow the marker. You’ll eventually reach Tatyana’s chamber where clone Igor says goodbye to his mother.
One ending scene that will follow says how Igor left the power plant. He’s alive, but he’s changed somewhat, and he’s not telling anyone what transpired therein.
Travel through the portal
This takes you back to the Fractal World where the chernobylite entity resides. Follow the path and you’ll see companions and characters that have died (even though they remained alive in your playthrough).
That’s because you’re in the realm of a multi-dimensional being, able to influence the minds of humans while creating otherworldly horrors. It admits that these projections are from different timelines, your decisions rippling through parallel universes without you knowing of untold consequences.
The entity will then give you two choices:
- Commune with the chernobylite – This causes Igor to turn into one of those weird, green blocks. The ending will show the Exclusion Zone being ravaged by monsters.
- Reject it completely – Igor will cut open his belly and commit suicide, destroying the entity’s realm from within. The ending scene will show something similar to the “destroy the portal” decision, except that Igor never returned from the power plant.
As for the epilogues, you’ll get to see images showcasing what had happened to the characters that you’ve met. For instance, if Tarakan survived the Heist, then you’ll find out that he’s training more people against the NAR mercenaries and monsters. Another example is if Kozlov was kidnapped and let go. You’re told of how he retired quietly since you didn’t execute him.
Note: Don’t forget that you can still load an earlier “day save.” You can use the Radiation Chamber and alter the timeline and redo the Heist mission if you want to see different outcomes.
