In an interview on the CO Daily News site, Urbanek describes how the combat system in Champions is different from most other games. Rather than characters getting weaker as fights go on, CO’s superheros get stronger, just like their comic book counterparts:

“In the fiction, as the fight goes on for heroic characters and for villain characters, your resolve hardens. You draw upon ever greater reserves of your internal energy to fight harder and harder as the stakes get higher. You actually get an escalating model in fiction.”
