Capcom’s Keiji Inafune has half-jokingly said that it would be “interesting” to make a game in partnership with Bungie.
Inafune (responsible for Mega Man, among other characters) visited Bungie’s Seattle office, and then had a chat with the team.”Bungie is an amazing studio that has made incredible games,” said Inafune, “So I was always curious about how they made their games in hopes of being up to add some of the flavour into Capcom games.”
More interestingly, he expressed a clear interest in Bungie, saying he “wanted to come down to Bungie in order to see just how well our philosophies on game design matched up. If things clicked, I know it would be interesting to collaborate together on a title in the future.”
He also chatted a bit about game development’s history. “When games were just becoming established, it was pretty easy to create a game based on a flash idea that occurred to you,” he said, adding that the smaller games and shorter production cycles “made it very easy to take chances on risky concepts.” The drawback was that “because of these short production cycles and small teams, you knew you had to drill down on a single ‘big’ concept and that helped you to maintain your focus.”
Could we see a Capcom/Bungie collaboration in the future? You never know. It’s good to see the big boys taking notice of each other and their different design philosophies, though. If you’re interested in Bungie and its famous Halo franchise, also check out our Halo 3 ODST preview and interview.
